The U.S. think tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Stimson Center have disclosed that within the next five to 10 years, Pakistan will become the country with the third largest nuclear stock pile, after the U.S. and Russia. According to the report, India currently has 100 nuclear weapons and Pakistan has 120, a number that will reach 350 in the next five to 10 years, since Pakistan is constructing 20 warheads a year.
There are no two opinions about whether Pakistan believes in the universal principle of peaceful co-existence and, in accordance with this principle, desires peace in the region. However, its neighbor, India, has intensified its hostility and warmongering against Pakistan and made an atom bomb following Dhaka's collapse, which left Pakistan with no option but to also acquire nuclear capability for the sake of its security.
Undoubtedly, the world has adopted a double standard for India and Pakistan where acquisition of nuclear technology is concerned. Instead of imposing economic sanctions on India of the kind imposed upon Pakistan, the U.S. has entered into agreements for provision of nuclear technology to India, which definitely pose an increased danger to Pakistan's security and force Pakistan to increase its nuclear capabilities. Undoubtedly, it is only Pakistan's nuclear capability that has deterred India from imposing a full-fledged war on Pakistan so far. Meanwhile, India's Modi-led government has intensified threats to Pakistan's security by fanning war mania against Pakistan in India. Under the circumstances, it is only by means of our strong nuclear defenses that we can counter India's war craze.
It is heartening that a gradual increase is taking place in our nuclear capability, capacity, and number of nuclear weapons, thanks to a strong command and control authority; the nation is comforted by the knowledge that the armed forces of Pakistan are not only passionate about sacrificing their lives for their beloved homeland, but also possess complete capability for hindering the enemy.
If the world has found the report of the American think tank troubling, it should take action for the sake of world peace to rein in India's aggressive designs. As far as Pakistan is concerned, India's fanaticism will force Pakistan to take every kind of action to defend its homeland, including the acquisition of a nuclear arsenal.
