Trump’s Comeback to the US Presidency: Gaza Citizens’ Thoughts
Abed Rabbo, a 30-year-old man from central Gaza, said that he expects that “Donald Trump will probably pressure Hamas to release the hostages (who were taken from Israel). Therefore, the fighting will probably end soon.” On the other hand, Hassanen, a 35-year-old woman from northern Gaza, said that “Trump said he would 'work to stop' the war, but I think his goal was to gain support in the election, and he does not have a concrete plan,” adding that the future is hard to read.
Regardless of the outcome of the war, there is a large chance that citizens of Gaza will face a difficult situation. During Trump's first presidential term, his policies placed a heavy emphasis on Israel, while giving Palestine the cold shoulder. For example, the U.S., which had been the largest donor to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, stopped contributing to the organization.
According to health officials in Gaza, since fighting began last October, the death toll has surpassed 44,000. Because Gaza's population is approximately 2.2 million, it is estimated that 2% of the population has perished due to Israeli military attacks.
Some analysts also say that Trump does not like wars because they are costly, so what are his intentions? The people of Gaza are watching with bated breath.
