Since the disastrous earthquake occurred in Sichuan, China last Monday, the U.S. business community has already donated to China’s earthquake-stricken area a total of 30 million U.S. dollars.
At noon on the 20th, led by Chairman of the US-China Business Council, Mr. Fu Qiangen (John Frisbe), forty-three high-level representatives from several famous companies came to the US Chinese Embassy in memory of the earthquake victims and each signed the condolence book. Cisco, Boeing, Motorola, Chevrolet, UPS, Federal Express, and other famous companies presented and met with Chinese Ambassador Mr. Zhou Wenzhong.
The representatives expressed their sympathy and solicitude to the Chinese people, and they also showed their admiration to the Chinese government in the rapid and efficient performance during the earthquake relief. The Vice President of Procter & Gamble’s Global Government Affairs, Ms. Rolin Brian said to Ambassador Zhou that P & G is willing to share the pain with the Chinese people and support the Chinese people to overcome the disaster.
John Frisbe told the reporters that the American business community deeply sympathizes with all Chinese people in this terrible earthquake disaster, while they all expressed condolences to the victims. American and Chinese peoples have a long-term friendship. At this very difficult moment, the US business community wishes to “catch as catch can” in helping all the friendly Chinese people ride out the storm.
At the same time, Chinese-funded enterprises in the United States and their organizations —- Sino-American General Chamber of Commerce made donations to the disaster areas in China today.
U.S. President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, U.S. Senator Chipman and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Executive President Ms. Nancy Nord, the U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary David Springna, came to Chinese Embassy this morning and expressed their condolence to all the earthquake victims. Chinese Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong gave a speech to thank President Bush and the U.S. business community for the support and their concern about the earthquake relief by Chinese government and all Chinese people. He also said that China will certainly be able to overcome the difficulties, and the Beijing Olympic Games will certainly be able to succeed.
