The American Dream of Colored Revolution in Georgia

George Bush, recently arrived from China, called for a Security Council meeting. In the rose garden of the White House he read the United State’s statement on the ongoing war between Russia and Georgia. [Condoleeza] Rice and [Robert] Gates, ministers of foreign affairs and defense, were standing on his right and left. Listening to the statement and the speeches of Dana Perino clearly shows that the United States has lost the difficult Russian chess game in the first moves. Why do I believe the war in Georgia is a Russian chess game? And how could we show that Russia has won? We will answer that in the following article.

Monday, May 9th, 2005 is an unforgettable day! On the morning of that day, Bush put a special chair beside Putin in the Red Square of Moscow and watched the march of the Russian Army.

The Russians were celebrating their victory over Nazi Germany one day later than the Europeans, the day which is known as VDF in Europe.

There were 50 other heads of states invited, including China, France, and India; but there was no sign of the Georgian president.

The same night Bush went to Georgia, not to watch the boring march but to be greeted by dance and music in the liberty square of Tbilisi. Still when we watch that ceremony, it’s like a dream come true. The blue sky of Tbilisi in May, the wonderful lighting of the square, boys and girls in dancing groups had made Bush restless. We all know that George Bush sleeps like a hen at nine o’clock each night, but he stayed up until 10 that night, and even more important than that, he danced in front of TV cameras that night, and Laura Bush just patiently watched her husband.

Did Bush really understand the distance between the Kremlin and the Liberty Square? Or did he think that someday there will be a similar party at the Kremlin and he will dance again?! The day after – Tuesday, May 10 – he praised the people and the government of Georgia and named them the pioneers of colored revolutions. He said, “before the Pink Revolution in Iraq , and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, and the Cedar Revolution in Lebanon; the Colored Revolution happened in Georgia. Georgia is the symbol of liberty for the region and for the whole world. The way you have chosen to liberty is a hard one, but you are not alone in this way; the United States will stand with you.”

In the joint press conference he told the Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, “you have a powerful friend in the U.S.,” and Saakashvili replied, “You are a perfect and powerful leader; the Georgian people will owe the United States for ever.” Here President Bush said a sentence that showed he doesn’t understand Georgian and Russian affairs at all. He said, “We’re ready to help you on the South Ossetia and Abkhazia issues.”

With no doubt Georgia was thinking that the United States would help it in solving the South Ossetia and Abkhazia conflicts. So Saakashvili gave his country to the U.S. and his army to Israel for renovation. The procurement of military equipment started from Israel . the Israeli military experts entered Georgia. And even some Georgians who had lived in Israel for years became ministers in Saakashvili’s cabinet.

The Georgian Defense Minister, Davit Kezerashvili, has an Israeli nationality and had studied in Israel. When he was chosen as the defense minister in 2006, everyone including the Labour Party in Georgia were amazed. How could someone with no military experience become defense minister? In addition the minister of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Temur Iakobashvili, is also a Jew, though he doesn’t possess an Israeli nationality; but his dependence on Israel is not less than the defense minister. After the war in South Ossetia was started by the Georgian army, Temur Iakobashvili was interviewed by Israel’s army’s Hebrew radio; speaking Hebrew fluently, he said that Israel should be proud of the weaponry and training it has provided for Georgia. In those first days of the war, a small group of the Georgian army killed 90 Russian military officials, destroyed 50 tanks and shot 11 Russian planes. The Haaretz again published the words of Iakobashvili; Israel’s pride!

Israel also has another first-grade player in the Georgian security forces, General Gol Hersh. After the defeat of the Israeli army in the 33 days war in 2007, he was forced to resign, and now the Georgian president has chosen him as his security advisor. In addition, there’s also another key player: Roni Milo, Tel Aviv’s former mayor is the representative of Israel’s military industries in Georgia!

It seems that Saakashvili thought he could win this chess game by implementing such figures in the structure of his government, solve the South Ossetia conflict by military force, and prepare the grounds to become a member of the NATO from a powerful position. But his advisors didn’t tell him that becoming a member of NATO has some conditions. One of them is found in part b of paragraph 2 of the economic-political conditions: a country that wants to become a member of the NATO should solve its domestic issues peacefully.

A week after the start of the conflict, all the promises of the United States and Israel were forgotten, and all of it was concluded in 70 tons of humanitarian aid. And in reply to the CNN reporter who asked, “What do you expect from the West?” Saakashvili answered, “to wake up!”. The same minister who was proud of Israeli equipment and training said, “the bombs falling on us are falling on democracy!”

Sergey Lavrov Russian Foreign Minister mentioned three important facts just after Bush’s statement:

The composers of Bush’s statement didn’t know Georgia and the region well. Georgia should forget the rule on South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and Saakashvili should resign and find another job!

In one word, the situation won’t go back to a pre-August 6th state. Lavrov said the last word: “The Georgian government is an American special project! America should choose between reality and dream.”

George Bush named Georgia the pioneer of colored revolutions. Now there’s no color left to that American–Israeli revolution. Russia patiently checkmated America, Israel, and NATO at the right moment. When Shimon Peres was told that the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was on the line and wanted to speak with him, he probably expected to hear, “get out of Georgia, get your military instructors out and cancel your weaponry contracts.” Two planes extracted the Israeli military instructors from Tbilisi in the first days of the conflict, the sales contract of 200 units of Merkava tanks was canceled, and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Israel will act according to its own national interests in the Russian–Georgian conflict…

There’s nothing left of that colorful revolution but the ridiculous dance of George Bush, and of course a president who has sacrificed his national interests for America and Israel. The chess game between Putin and Dick Cheney has ended. The picture on this week’s edition of The Economist also says that Putin has won.
