Iran Indifferent to Outcome of American Election

Mottake: The results of the American elections will not make a difference for Iran

During his most recent speech, the Foreign Minister of Iran stressed Iran’s indifference about the final outcome of the United States’ presidential elections.

ISNA reported that Manoucher Mottaki, during a Central Asian and European Economic convention in Istanbul, told foreign reporters that both of the candidates for this election talked about change. However, neither one has described these changes and I am sure neither one will bravely execute them in the future.

Mottaki, who spoke about Washington’s hopeless internal and foreign political changes, continued by saying: It is not important who gets elected, on the contrary, what is important is what America will do after the elections. For the past thirty years, we have examined five American presidents, both Democrat and Republican, and we have yet to witness any differences.

He stressed that the elections on Tuesday will probably be the “final opportunity” the next American president will have to create real changes in the country’s foreign politics.

With this said, last week, Ali Larijani, the head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (speaker of the parliament), during a trip to Bahrain said: Tehran would prefer to see Barack Obama as President of the United States rather than his rival.

Based on a report from a French news agency, Larijani, during a news convention in this country, continued by saying: In spite of the fact we know America’s politics will not change much, we still prefer Obama because he has a softer approach and he is more rational. But the real test is not about rhetoric, it is about the actions that will be taken.
