The Arab League has brought to the U.N. a ceasefire request concerning Israel's attack on the Gaza strip, but it has been denied by the United States and England. This is a simple case, but it proves the validity of Samuel P. Huntington's “Clash of Civilizations” theory, and it proves that the Middle East problem is seemingly irresolvable.

The United States' support can be explained by the powerful presence of Israeli voters; what about England? Why do they blindly support Israel?

Actually, the United States and England support Israel because it is their most effective weapon against the Arab countries. They don't want to get their hands dirty, but Israel will always be there to be a crushing weapon against the these nations.

Is this a geo-political strategy? Not necessarily. This is the conflict of Anglo-Saxon Christianity towards Islamic culture, which since the time of the Crusades has yet to be resolved. In his 1993 book “The Clash of the Civilizations,” Huntington predicted that after the Cold War, the next conflict would be between Christian and Islamic culture, because Christianity views Islam as an inferior culture in need of correction, and Islam certainly will not submit to this.

Under the manipulation of neo-conservative Republicans, several U.S. regimes, especially the Bush one, have deeply embraced religious ideology. They have a great ambition to change the Arab world, and the roots of the Iraqi invasion can be traced to religious ideology. Although Egypt has been bought off by the U.S., Jordan has been suppressed politically, and Iraq conquered militarily, this is only the submission of their governments - the Islamic populations remain unchanged. And as long as this situation exists, Anglo-Saxon Christian civilization will never rest, and Israel is forever a thorn in the side of the Arab community.

Called the greatest prophet of this age, Huntington passed away a few days ago. While his 1993 article and even the later great work “The Clash of Civilizations and Remaking of the World Order” clearly predicted this kind of conflict, it unfortunately did not provide a solution or means to end it.
