“A message has been sent,” claimed Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, a leader of the Mujahideen Youth Movement of Somalia, in a note about the recent death of Osama bin Laden. His killing does not mean the cause is over, according to Aweys. “The jihad does not end with the death of Osama bin Laden … [just as it did not end when] they killed the prophets.” In an exclusive statement he made to Al Jazeera news network on Monday, he continued by saying that although bin Laden has met his fate, it did not happen as a result of force — it simply happened.
Aweys also said that while perhaps bin Laden has been killed, his message of jihad will never die.
