Hillary Clinton Tries Again

President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met for lunch at the White House. The purpose of the meeting has not been disclosed. Nobody knows the reason why the two have met and what they have talked about, but everybody in the U.S. believes that the next 2016 presidential campaign was the main topic. After two terms, President Obama will not be able to run in the next presidential campaign, but Hillary Clinton might give it a go again. In order to win, she will need the support of the first African-American president in American history. The Huffington Post called it a “presidential lunch.”* However, it is possible that President Obama would have consulted Mrs. Clinton on current affairs in foreign policy: from the situation in Egypt to that in Syria, the emerging peace talks in the Middle East and the diplomatic battle over Edward J. Snowden, the fugitive American intelligence contractor. According to The New York Times, it is hard not to think objectively about the 2016 presidential campaign already. In fact, it is hard to believe that President Obama and the former secretary did not talk during the lunch about her ambition to return to the White House, this time as president.

Although Hillary Clinton said goodbye to the U.S. Department of State, she is still not out of the political picture. She still remains the most popular woman in America, even more popular than first lady Michelle Obama. According to the latest reports, if she runs in the next Democratic primary, she would have 63 percent of the vote against Vice President Joe Biden’s 13 percent and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 6 percent. The only factor that plays in her hands, some political analysts say, is age. In 2016, Hillary Clinton will turn 68. She will not be old or young. This could be a difficult gap to overcome should she have to face a younger opponent — both in the primaries and presidential campaign.

TV Series and Documentary on Hillary

While we are waiting for Hillary Clinton’s decision, the former first lady is going to be the main character of a TV series. The American network NBC is gearing up to broadcast a fictional series about her. Bob Greenblatt, NBC chairman, is confident it will air in less than a year — four episodes in prime time — with the idea of starring the actress Diane Lane in the protagonist’s role.

Coming soon is also a CNN documentary on Hillary Clinton’s life. According to Politico, which broke the news, its title and date are still unknown. The documentary will be shown both on TV and on the big screen by CNN Films. The film director will be Charles H. Ferguson, who won the Oscar in 2010 for “Inside Job,” a documentary about the financial crisis.

*Editor’s note: The Huffington Post called it a “private” lunch in headlines.
