How ridiculous is it that the liars belonging to the regime have split our minds wide open since the beginning of the Syrian revolution. They talk about the conspirators in Syria who want to move it from the axis of those who are resisting the conspirators to those who are following America and Israel. In addition to this, they have continued to depict the conflict in Syria as if it were between America and its followers and Russia, which has named itself as part of an alliance of opposition from a different perspective. Does this rhetoric not become nonsense after the Russians and Israelis coordinated their operations in Syria from within the same operations room? They have even gone as far as to do so with the regime and its allies.
I don’t know why the Nationalists, the Nasserists, the Arab opposition, and all the left-leaning others insist on depicting the conflict in Syria as if it were a conflict between the East and West. It is as if we are living in the 1960s during the Cold War between the Soviet Union and America. It is true that the Russian president is trying to restore the former glory of the defunct Soviet Union with its ideology and mentality. However, Russia is never going to clash with the United States in the Middle East. We cannot believe either that the Russians are going to fill the void that the Americans have begun to leave behind in the region as if the Americans have been defeated ahead of the Russian advance.
There is no relation between Russia’s entrance into Syria and the weakening of American tyranny or the escalation of Russian tyranny. Instead it is the same thing, and it is tied to benefiting Israel in Syria and in the region more broadly speaking. Of course it is for the benefit of the American and Russian partnership. It is not possible for the Russians, for example, to enter the Egyptian domain without the blessing of Israel, and by extension America. Therefore Egypt is still in America’s pocket both politically and militarily. A portion of Egypt’s military budget is still dependent on American generosity. Even if Russia’s influence affects U.S. influence in Egypt, why would Putin dare to push peace on the Egyptians? Egypt has noticed how Jordan has continued to coordinate more with Russia than America. Would Jordan ever really dare to do this without getting the green light from America and Israel?
If we return to the Syria issue, we can see that Russia’s intervention occurred after the highest level of statesmanship between Russia and Israel in the fields of politics, military and intelligence. President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met twice two weeks before the Russian intervention. Former Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman recognized that Russian-Israeli cooperation in Syria is occurring around the clock, seven days a week. Even young children learn that it is the Israeli foreign minister who determines American policy in the Middle East, and not America. If Tel Aviv used to design U.S. foreign policy in the region, then it is natural for America to be comfortable with Russia being present in Syria when Israel has given Russia the green light to do so.
It is disgraceful to hear Syrian, Lebanese and Iranian supporters of the Syrian regime say that they are proud of Russia’s role in Syria as if Russia were confronting Israel and America’s role there. What makes them seem most foolish is when they say that the Russians came to rid Syria of American-backed terrorists or to stabilize the country. They act as though Russia were some kind of charitable organization meant to meet their needs. There is nothing to guarantee Russia will confront America in Syria. Certainly Russia did not bother with the Americans in Syria as it did before when it pressured the Syrian leadership to give up its strategic chemical weapons, thus bowing to the desire of the Americans and Israel. The one who stripped Syria of its strategic weapons for the benefit of Israel is without a doubt closer to it than the Syrian regime. Among those who are requesting and insisting on Russian intervention in Syria are individuals who are thinking about U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s agreement. The agreement was described by some at the time as a new Sykes-Pico, and possibly even more dangerous. It was considered an organization of actors, revolutions, and the splitting of the region between the Americans and the Russians. The prominent U.S. Sen. Lindsay Graham has admitted in a famous response to the U.S. secretary of defense that America sold Syria to the Russians and Iran in a game of mutual interest.
Whatever bravado emanates from the regime and its allies is certainly linked to their strategic alliance with Russia. It is well known that the Russian-Israeli alliance is getting many times more powerful for numerous reasons. We must also not forget that there are more than 1 million Russian Jews living in Israel, and that they are the ones who perpetuate good relations with Russia. We all remember the picture of Russian President Putin wearing a Jewish skullcap while visiting an excavation site under the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He blessed the excavations which for Muslims take place at the third holiest site for Islam.
Let’s return to describing the language of normal people who reject the aforementioned depiction of their relationship. Russia, as international statistics show, is not stronger than America. According to international standards, it is only a regional power and not a powerful one with regard to an output that does not reach the level of even the weakest European state. Apart from that, it still depends to an extent on the export of natural gas and oil. It is true that it has a powerful military and a massive arsenal, however this alone does not qualify it as serious competition for America. Subsequently, what Russia is doing in Syria and elsewhere must be done with the consent of America, the more powerful of the two. When the powerful are not pleased with the weak, we know they are able to stop them easily or through coercive means. If the Russians’ actions in Syria were not to the liking of the Americans, then Russia would not have even dared to send as much as a paper airplane to Syria, much less real warplanes. Surely everything that is being said about the Russian-American crisis with regard to Syria makes it seem as if we were living back during the Cold War, which is simply not true.
If America wanted to block Russian intervention in Syria, it would have only needed to give the Syrian opposition five anti-aircraft missiles to shoot down Russian warplanes in Syria. Russia’s prestige would have continued unheeded and would have proven the conspiracy as an international farce. It is true that the latest documents on Russia’s national security describe America and NATO as the biggest threat to Russia. However, when it comes to Syria, the Russians, Israelis and Americans share the heart of the same man.
