Elon Musk Is Doing Donald Trump an Unforgivable Favor

What the billionaire entrepreneur is giving the Republican presidential candidate you cannot buy with money.

Elon Musk can protest as often as he wants that he will absolutely not donate any money to the presidential election, let alone pay the legal fees or provide guarantees for one of the two candidates.

The rhetorical distance that one of the richest and possibly most entrepreneurial people in the world currently is keeping from politics is disingenuous. Musk has long since decided whom he will throw his concentrated, intangible capital behind in the coming eight months. It’s Donald Trump.

Musk is giving the right-wing populist’s positions a stage on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that you cannot buy with money, a platform that has degenerated into a hotbed of right-wing extremists under Musk. It’s not just that Musk allows people to tweet with impunity, unleashing toxic hate at President Joe Biden and the Democrats every day. It is also that he lends impact and attention to the many lies coming from the Trump camp. What Musk churns out daily on X, whether with ketamine in his system or not, reaches almost 180 million people. Many similarly hang on to every word from the South African born Musk, like they do with Trump.

In this way, Musk is doing Trump an unforgivable favor that will further erode the fabric of society.

Election 2024: Musk Is Making a Real Difference with the Way He Disseminates Information

By thoughtlessly spreading Trump’s absurd claims, distortions and simple lies on the contentious issue that is immigration, Musk makes them more acceptable and easily digestible for the masses. There is a difference between Trump ranting that the Democrats want to insidiously “replace” the white, Christian population through immigration and the world-renowned entrepreneur, known for his fascination for creative works on Earth and in space, giving credence to these catchphrases by repeating them.

As he fawns over Trump, Musk is no longer a solitary figure like Peter Thiel was in 2016. The Silicon Valley investor spoke for Trump at the Republican National Convention as the sole representative of the primarily California-based tech sector, which until that point had been generally left of the political center.

US Election: Musk & Co. Can Expect Gifts in the Event of a Trump Victory

That is over. Today, billionaires like Larry Ellison (Oracle), Marc Andreesen (venture capitalist), Ken Griffin (Citadel) and hedge fund managers John Paulson and Bill Ackman are getting involved without any embarrassment over Trump. For the members of the economic elite, it’s not about social-ideological designs. Instead, it’s all about the money. Biden intends to push a considerable tax hike through Congress for the super-rich after his reelection. On the other hand, with Trump, Musk & Co. can count on concessions and gifts.

What unites Musk and his peers is their profound contempt for mainstream media, which continue to deconstruct in detail Trump’s lies (more than 30,000 in his term as president alone) and fact check speeches that regularly veer into the monstrous. What one calls journalism is a nuisance for Musk.

The case of Don Lemon shows the extent to which this is true. The Black star news anchor fell out of favor at CNN. Musk offered him a new home at X to increase his audience. When Lemon posed journalistic questions to the X boss, freedom of speech ended quickly. Contract terminated. Lemon gone. Musk, quite the strong man. Trump was pleased.
