Biden Is Failing in His Own Camp

It’s hard to imagine how the Democrats can still believably rally behind the president. If they change candidates, Trump would be the old man in this election campaign.

The Democrats won’t be able to make every one of the president’s press conferences between now and Nov. 5 a defense of his fitness. The decision on whether or not Joe Biden should run again needs to be made in the near future; otherwise, the party itself will lose any remaining chance to keep the president in office.

Under the Protection of Anonymity

Even now, publicity snipes from his own camp have hurt him at least as much as his unfortunate performance in the televised debate with Donald Trump. All the people who, under the protection of anonymity, are now whispering reservations about Biden to left-leaning media, from The New York Times to CNN — who make every little misstep by the president seem bigger — will not win over undecided voters for the Democrats.

It is hard to imagine how the party can still believably rally behind Biden after these last two weeks.

In this way, the chance of basically any replacement candidate increases automatically. A whole series of younger Democrats would look better, not only than the run-down Biden, but also better than Trump. In a race against another Democrat, Trump would then become the old (and well-known) man. The fact that even Vice President Kamala Harris is currently polling better than Biden demonstrates how much movement there still is left in this election in which so much is at stake for America.
