Trump’s Gift to Harris

It is now more difficult for Kamala Harris. Many swing voters trust Donald Trump more on the economy. Is the Republican squandering his advantage?

The American Democrats’ summer fairy tale is over. The mere fact that Kamala Harris is not Joe Biden is no longer enough to incite enthusiasm five weeks before Election Day.

Dissatisfaction with the economy is retaking center stage for many voters, and that helps Donald Trump. Many Americans were doing better during his presidency, or at least, that’s what they say. They attribute the economic burden of the pandemic in the Republican’s last year in office and its consequences to Biden. More Americans trust the Republicans to solve the problems than they trust the Democrats.

As if Trump Were Given New Life

It’s as if Trump were (again) given new life. But the gift also has to be able to be received. Trump, in contrast, likes his former life better, when he was wearing most Americans out with his crassness and insults. Thus, he is bad-mouthing Harris as “mentally impaired” and immigrants as “animals” who “will walk into your kitchen” and “cut your throat.”

With it, Trump won’t shock anyone who didn’t completely sleep through the nine years since Trump came down the escalator. But he is reminding those who were hoping to benefit from Trump’s economic populism of the high price that his reelection would represent.

Harris will be grateful to Trump for that. But she still can’t afford to relax.
