The United States of America can, by its masterful capabilities, make black into white and white into black in accordance with its interests. Its military capability and economic, technological and scientific power has brought it hegemony and global dominance since becoming the sole superpower.
Whether under President Barack Obama or other former presidents belonging to the Democratic Party, which uses a donkey as its symbol, or under any of the former Republican presidents, whose symbol is an elephant, Washington wants the UN to carry out its orders as if it were one of its foreign affairs departments, obeying America’s orders and subjugating itself and the international community to America. In fact, Washington only adopts those UN resolutions that are consistent with its interests and that help it achieve its control over the world. It also refrains from implementing international resolutions that are not in its best interests, as is the case with its positions regarding Israel and Iraq, and, more recently, Syria, Yemen and Libya.
Washington rejected the renewal of Boutros Boutros-Ghali’s second term as UN Secretary General because he refused to be a functionary of the State Department. Madeleine Albright, who was then Washington’s delegate to the UN, had asked him on more than one occasion to remember who paid his large salary (a reference to Washington), especially after he published the results of a UN investigation on the Qana massacre, which implicated the Israeli army.
Here is another all too obvious response. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, rushed to introduce legislation to halt assistance and contributions to the UN and to punish its Secretariat should the General Assembly approve a declaration recognizing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. Obama actually preceded her in rejecting universal support for such a Palestinian state, confirming Washington’s blatant bias towards Israel while selling an illusion to the Palestinians and the Arabs.
