The conquerors of the capitalist era know that the only options in a world that is rapidly depleting its resources are to either share with everyone or take everything for themselves. Their chosen route is a continuation of history: robbery without scruples.
In order to capture Earth’s natural resources, Western powers need armies capable of dictating the destiny of other nations. The U.S. led NATO is a part of this plan.
The NATO member countries are not all the same. European societies prefer to leave the costs and fight to Washington, because of this they have been strongly reproached by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. There are discrepancies about the implementation of the anti-missile shield. The resistance in poor countries —Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya — are stronger and lasted longer than what was anticipated. This caused divisions among NATO, but the underlying unity holds strong.
The organization has superior attack power owing to the fact that U.S. power alone is something that has never been seen before and its area of intervention continues to expand. An article by Rick Rozoff sheds light on the threat.
In the last 12 years the U.S. and NATO have employed their force against Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Macedonia, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Yemen and Libya. More than 11,000 air attacks took place; 4,300 of them in Libya. Sixty members and partners attended the last conference in Serbia (who had been systematically bombed 12 years ago).
Their preparations for war are permanent and highly attended.
Operation Unified Protector achieved participation from Sweden, Malta, Kuwait, U.A.E, Jordan and Morocco.
The recent naval exercise Sea Breeze 2011 in the Black Sea, close to the Russian Fleet’s headquarters in Sebastopol, had participants from the U.S., Great Britain, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Belgium, Denmark, Georgia, Germany, Macedonia, Moldova, Sweden, Turkey and the host country, Ukraine. In 2010 Greece and Austria participated as well.
The sea exercise Phoenix Express 2011 took place in the eastern and central Mediterranean between the 1st and 15 of June with participants from: the U.S., Albania, Algeria, Croatia, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey.
This month in Iceland, the air and naval exercise titled Northern Viking hosted participating militaries from the U.S., Denmark, Iceland, Italy and Norway.
The 2011 Baltic Operations were attended by 11 European countries.
The 2011 exercise “Amber Hope” in the Baltic joined forces from the U.S., Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Georgia and Finland. The old Soviet Republic countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Ukraine participated as observers.
In Romania there was a military exercise on one of the four bases acquired by the U.S. It continued on the 13th of June in Bulgaria in of the four bases controlled by the Pentagon since 2006. There for the first time the Serbian military was integrated into the activities.
The rotational force of the Black Sea was formed in 2010 to integrate the armed forces of Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine. Its mission is deployed in Afghanistan and other war zones, as well as normal posts.
In Africa, thousands of Ugandan and Burundi soldiers were airlifted by NATO to fight in Somalia.
It is clear that the USA/NATO force is an instrument of a strategy designed for the future, for wars of absolute global domination. It is illogical to see this massive machine of destruction as an alliance to defend itself against countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.
In obvious crisis mode, in the last 10 years, Washington has doubled its military budget. The Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen sustains that “NATO is more needed and wanted than ever, from Afghanistan to Kosovo, from the coast of Somalia to Libya. We are busier than ever before.” (http://counterinformation.wordpress.com/2011/06/20/nato-the-ultimate-transformer/) He titled his speech in Spain “NATO and the Mediterranean: The changes ahead” (http://www.ieee.es/Galerias/fichero/RecursosInteres/Nacional/SpeechRasmunssen_Senado_2011_06_16.pdf)
A lieutenant colonel of the U.S Marine Corps explained that they trained soldiers for Afghanistan and other wars of the future. The Russian Ambassador to NATO, Dmitri Rogozin said “the war in Libya means…the beginning of its expansion south” (http://www.liquida.com/dmitri-rogozin/)
Rozoff observed that “Every one of the wars that the USA and its NATO allies have fought since 1999 have been to obtain new military bases and expeditionary contingents of the Pentagon and its alliance, in conquered lands and their neighbors…” that “just like the Yugoslavian, Afghan and Iraqi wars contributed to the development of the military intervention capacity of NATO…to its current use against Libya, the experience in Libya being used for future conflicts.”*
First we need to recognize the existence of the expansionist project of big business in order to be able to discuss and agree on the ways to resist these capitalistic endeavors. Waiting for the economic crisis to neutralize this military power is an error since it was created as a solution to the general collapse. Open Nazi violence will be activated during the collapse.
The Afghans for example have demonstrated that the popular armed fight is a means to immobilize the imperialists, and without doubt more fighting will occur in unity with other countries. Another front should be the ideological fight and social world, especially within their country. An important factor is the role of North American citizens sensitive to the humanistic values. They were important in deciding the outcome of the Vietnam War, and dealing with their country’s military defeat.
There is consensus about the danger of NATO, but people lack the understanding of its (NATO’s) strategic plan for universal genocide.
