Behind the Curtain of the Taliban’s Presence in Qatar

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Qatar has taken the responsibility in recent days of hosting negotiations between the Taliban extremist group and the U.S. — negotiations which U.S. officials have reminded are helping to establish peace in Afghanistan — but political observers recognize that these talks go beyond the officially announced issues.

Reports indicate that eight high-ranking Taliban members based in Pakistan have entered Qatar and have held discussions with a few officials of the U.S. State Department. The point to consider is that the Karzai government lacked an invitation to these negotiations. Not long ago it was announced that the Taliban had established political offices in Qatar and this has definitely been done with the coordination of the U.S.

There are several significant points we should address concerning this development:

1 – The first point is that accepting to negotiate with the Taliban, whom the Americans have always called a terrorist group and under that excuse invaded Afghanistan in 2001, is essentially the foremost indication of America’s failure in attacking Afghanistan. Exactly 10 years ago, the U.S. government under the leadership of George Bush made Afghanistan the target of its military invasion under the pretense that they would destroy the Taliban and al-Qaida extremist groups who had taken part in the attacks on the twin towers in New York. At that time, Bush promised that he would destroy this group in a short amount of time. However, after 10 years, not only was [America] not successful in destroying this group, but now it has sat at the table with the Taliban in order to get them to agree to peace!

2 – The next point is that not inviting the Afghan government to these negotiations creates the impression that the peace plan between the government in Kabul and the Taliban, during which Westerners were operating behind the scenes, has actually come to a deadlock and Americans no longer have any hope for them. The Supreme Council for Peace in Afghanistan, which is made up of 70 politicians and Afghan ethnic and tribal leaders, was supposed to conduct negotiations with the Taliban in order to encourage this group to put aside their weapons and enter into the current Afghan government. This plan has been unsuccessful in light of the recent issues.

3 – The astonishing actions of the American government in face-to-face discussions with the Taliban are aimed at the elections as well. In other words, on the threshold of election, Barak Obama’s government is trying to encourage this group to accept the desired conditions of the U.S. through interaction with them and by promising them power on the political stage of Afghanistan. In this way, Obama can tout this as one of his accomplishments for the election campaign. Obama and the Democrats — now that they have been forced to accept a timeline for withdrawal from Afghanistan without achieving their goals — are trying to compensate for this defeat and diminish its consequences in any way possible, specifically by persuading the Taliban to agree to a half-baked peace agreement.

4 – There is no doubt that the Taliban is a terrorist group and has committed numerous inhumane acts and many crimes against the people of Afghanistan during and after its five-year rule in that country. Therefore, America’s negotiations with this group and its official recognition of them is actually supporting terrorism and extremism, and the U.S., despite its claims, easily supports terrorist groups when it is in its interest. In these negotiations, the rights of the Afghan people have been completely ignored, which is the main story, because Afghans will never desire peace with this terrorist group. However, the American government places a higher priority on the achievement of their purposes than on the interests of the nation of Afghanistan.

[Editor’s note: Point 5 is missing from the original article, as well.]

6 – The arrogant powers, especially the U.S., are essentially monitoring the formation, activity and growth of terrorist groups. With regard to the Taliban, this issue also applies, as in several cases. U.S. officials have acknowledged the fact that they created the Taliban in order to — as they claim — prevent the actions and the progression of the former Soviet Union in Afghanistan.

7 – In this regard, the role that has been taken by the amir of Qatar and the other sheiks in being a broker or a middleman for the benefit of the U.S. and Washington’s politics is worth considering. Meanwhile, Qataris, who refer to themselves as advocates for the interests of the Arab world, actually are operating in accordance with the policies of the U.S. and the Zionist regime. This secretive and insidious role in regional developments and the popular uprisings in Arab countries are stronger. The sheiks of Qatar, who negotiate for the Zionist regime in the Arab world, are and have been serving the Americans and the Zionists through cooperation with NATO in Libya, their recommendation of sending military forces to Syria, and by paying oil dollars to the opposition of Bashar Assad.

8 – The final point is that the U.S. wants to give power to the Taliban by reconciling with this extremist group and factor them into the regional equation, so that they may be at the disposal of America as the center of a potential threat. Any time that America’s interests require, the U.S. can leverage this threat. The U.S. realizes that this group has bases throughout Afghanistan and Pakistan. In the opinion of the Americans, sequestering and controlling this extremist group can be a tool that they can use to put pressure on Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.

In light of all this, there is no doubt that the sheiks of Qatar will be the loser in the games that have already started during the rapid developments of the Arab region in the Middle East. They have made an incorrect assessment of the new conditions in the Arab world and are unaware of the fact that a wave of awakening sweeping over the nations in the region will wash away America’s influence along with the existence of its pawns. During the imminent decline, the brokers for Zionism and terrorism, including the sheiks of Qatar, will be the first victims in line.
