US in Middle East: Huge Failure or Huge Farce?

It seems as though war clouds are gathering once again over Iran and that whole region. Even more so if one listens to the awfully harsh statements of the American president.

The “United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon,” stated President Obama from the stand of the U.N. General Assembly. “A nuclear-armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained. It would threaten the elimination of Israel, the security of Gulf nations, and the stability of the global economy.”

Well, we finally found out what threatens the stability of the global economy! You will laugh — Iran! Listen here, the U.S. managed to control the Soviet Union, India and Pakistan, the whole of North Korea and even in-docile Israel. But with Iran, they won’t be able to. By the way, this may create an impression that Obama is actually pacifying his Israeli allies, who demanded that Americans strike immediately.

Benjamin Netanyahu: “You have to place that red line before them now, before it’s too late.” “You know, they’re in the last 20 yards and you can’t let them cross that goal line. You can’t let them score a touchdown because that would have unbelievable consequences — grievous consequences for the peace and security of us all, of the world really.”

In reality, there is no red line. And there are no signs that Iran may create a nuclear weapon any time soon. This is periodically confirmed by both Israeli intelligence and sources at the International Atomic Energy Agency, and everyone is well aware of this. It is the same as the mythical chemical weapons of Saddam Hussein. And for this, wide-eyed scary statements are made without the fear of real consequences. And, in turn, this lets American policy in the region gain huge successes.

“And it is because of the progress that I’ve witnessed … after nearly four years as president, that I remain ever hopeful about the world that we live in,” stated Obama at the end of his address to the U.N. General Assembly. “The war in Iraq is over. American troops have come home. We’ve begun a transition in Afghanistan. … Al-Qaida has been weakened and Osama bin Laden is no more.”

One thing is unclear: In such an idyllic world, where are the problems coming from?

In reality, the consequences of America’s activities are hounding it. Freed Iraq is, in fact, an ally of Iran and Syria. In freed Libya, an American Ambassador is killed. In freed Afghanistan, negotiations are held with the same Taliban that it was freed from. Even freed Egypt, the largest Arab country, is clearly turning to face Iran. This looks a lot like a monstrous total failure. Even if it were a farce, it would be no less terrifying.

From the Winnie the Pooh cartoon: “I say, are you stuck?”

No, just resting.”

Whether Americans are stuck or simply resting, time will tell.
