Pakistani Political Crises And America

Why is the American government worried today? Why is Britain anxious? Why are their ambassadors running here and there from one politician to another and having meetings with the prime minister and the president, testing their credibility? This kind of interference in internal issues has not been witnessed in the past as it is being seen at this juncture of time.

The reason for all of this is that the American government is following the way of devastation and fear. The U.S. sees that Pakistan, their strategic partner in their war against terrorism, is facing internal uncertainty and instability, and they have the notion that their war strategy in Southeast Asia is going to collapse before long. So their anxiety has risen. They want to prevent Pakistan from being unstable and they will do anything in order to attain their goals. But their main aim is to protect their political, economical and defense interests in the region.

Former American presidents Bush Senior and Bush Junior committed deplorable mistakes during their long 16 years in field of war strategy. After analysis, we can come to the conclusion that the tenure of Bill Clinton was also a complete failure in this regard. The main responsibility for the failure of American strategy goes to the CIA, as the information it provided to the American government and to the presidents was untruthful and absolutely baseless.

It seems that the agency is working for some of the particular lobbies that exist in America, or maybe there is some influential circle that exists in the agency and its main objective is to work for the interests of Israel and to give preference to the interests of Israel rather than America. With this intention, it started to provide wrong and misleading information to the American government, on the basis of which the American government took action and only later came to find out that the information was absolutely baseless and didn’t have a truthful origin.

There are two examples of this: the main example in this regard is that of Iraq. Regarding Iraq, the CIA continuously provided news to the American government that the country had a stock of “weapons of mass destruction,” while at the same time the American media also started to aggravate America and other Western countries against Iraq. It was being said that the Iraq’s “weapons of mass destruction” were a threat not only to Israel, but also to its neighboring countries. On this baseless information, a mountain was made out of a molehill, Iraq was invaded, and the whole country was destroyed. But what was to happen later – could the peace be maintained in Iraq? This spark, burning in the minds of Iraqi people, could become a flame at any time.

The CIA has provided the wrong information to the American president and to the Pentagon again regarding the Taliban. At that time, the Taliban was ruling the country and it was an independent and sovereign country. It was beyond the scope of the imagination that any sovereign country could be invaded. They were not involved in any type of terrorism.

However, it was alleged that they provided refuge to the leadership of Al-Qaeda, which was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attack on America. America demanded that the Taliban hand over Osama Bin Laden and his entire leadership. If any logic was used, they would not have had to launch the invasion against Iraq.

Right now, who says that Osama Bin Laden is in the tribal areas of Afghanistan or Pakistan? It is also possible that he is living somewhere else or some other country. The American president, Mr. Obama, is saying that America is not winning the war in Afghanistan, and if that is true, then he will be altering his policy on Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, before the U.S. applies any altered policy, it is necessary to take Pakistan into its confidence and the truth of the secret information that the CIA is providing to the Pentagon and to Mr. Obama should be tested.

From the time Mr. Robert Gates assumed the position of American secretary of defense, the CIA has been providing baseless information against Pakistan. While the impression was given that the city Quetta of Balochistan has become the stronghold of the Taliban, it is also being propagated that the next massive action against America will be prepared and made from Pakistan and that the Pakistani government has provided absolute freedom to the Taliban in Quetta. According to my own opinion, there is an anti-Pakistan lobby that has grave intentions against Pakistan’s nuclear program and that frequently accuses the Pakistani military. In this regard, there is a great responsibility not to allow this anti-Pakistani lobby success in its intentions. The independent Pakistani media should also not take note of it.

America and other Western countries are concerned that, in a situation where Pakistan can’t control its political crises, terrorism will increase. They are worried that extremism will increase in Pakistan and the NATO forces in Afghanistan will face greater danger and that all the effort made by America against terrorism would have been in vain. In fact, America itself would be responsible for this, as it hasn’t provided its full cooperation or the resources Pakistan needs to fight terrorism, while on the other hand it continues to pressure Pakistan.

The instability of Pakistan impacts the whole region, and the terrorist forces that Pakistan has stopped until now that have became an insurmountable obstacle, will not only influence Pakistani minds, but also go into Indian regions and spoil their way of thinking. The increasing feelings of isolation and disappointment in the minds of Indian Muslims may result in a great threat to the integrity and the stability of India, and thus American interests in Southeast Asia would face such a great threat that they couldn’t be saved. President Obama once said that India is Pakistan’s best friend. In reality, this shows America’s concern that India not come close to the fire lighted by America, the fire from which sparks are arriving in Pakistan.

It may be noted that Robert Gates was the American secretary of defense during the reign of Bush Junior, also, and his mind is set against Muslims. He is the representative of the idea in America that after the Cold War Islam is the greatest danger to America. On the basis of this way of thinking he has pressured the Western and American governments to win the war in Afghanistan at any cost. He is still following the policies of the former president, Bush Junior, which were actually his own policies.

If Obama gets a chance to think with his heart, then he should think about removing Robert Gates as secretary of defense and replacing him with someone who can provide a new direction for the American defense strategy. President Obama should bring the change he promised during his election campaign. America and Britain’s concern is fine; however, their interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan is not okay.
