America’s Deal with the Devil

Sept. 11 is yet another anniversary of the terrorist attack in New York, already forgotten by Russians. At that time, innocent people — including employees of leading U.S. financial corporations, rightfully considered the American intellectual elite — perished at the hands of terrorists.

The entire world sympathized with America. In Moscow, flowers were sent to the U.S. Embassy. American military operations in Afghanistan appeared justified and certainly strengthened a still-weak Russia’s position in the Caucasus. The term “international terrorism” was firmly fixed in the Russian lexicon. At that time, the U.S. and Russia fought terrorism together.

We preferred to keep silent about the fact that the Americans themselves had founded and actively supported various terrorist organizations. At one time, the U.S. opposed the USSR in Afghanistan. That sinister project next left its bloody mark in the Balkans, Chechnya and other hot spots around the globe. In the end, the Islamists got out of control, and in 2001, the rabid dog bit its master.

It is surprising to see history repeating itself. According to the United Nations, more than 1.2 million citizens of developing countries will flee to the European Union in 2015 and 2016. The Arab Spring and the West’s aggression against Libya have led to many new social and economic problems for the EU. Still, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Migrants are potentially a major force. According to many experts and global media, Islamic State group fighters, members of al-Qaida and other terrorist groups controlled by the American intelligence service, could be among those heading to Europe.

Clearly, the U.S. believes it is getting yet another powerful form of leverage over European leaders. Europe’s heads of state fear large-scale terrorism and massive riots; the 9/11 attacks demonstrate that Islamist extremists occasionally slip out of their handlers’ control.

Similarly, Europe’s economy and currencies are running a fundamental risk, even though the markets have yet to realize it. It is possible that even Europe’s post-Christian civilization is making a fatal mistake. Europe, a favorite vacation destination for Russians, will never be the same again. The devil can never be controlled or tamed. He always gets the best of you.

The migrant situation in Europe has encouraged all kinds of xenophobic and anti-Islamic attitudes here in Russia. Such rhetoric isn’t as harmless as it first appears. Its goal is to sow mistrust, or better yet, enmity, between religious groups. It’s obvious that this is the only way to destroy Russia from the inside out, to hinder the creation of a unified Russian nation, and keep us from returning to the world stage as a global player.

The West, and the U.S. most of all, created and control Islamic terrorism. So-called supporters of true Russian Orthodoxy and Slavism pretend to be unaware of this. They also forget that Russian Muslims have laid down their lives for our country for centuries.

Russians are an imperial people. Others will never understand how, for us, connection to the land runs deeper than religion or family. All of us — Russians, Tatars, Buryats — are fingers on a single hand. These fingers must be clenched into a tight fist rather than spread apart. If not, they will break us one by one, and our land and resources will be given to other masters.
