LNG from the U.S. is not only more expensive than pipeline gas, but it is also extracted and transported under dubious environmental conditions (keyword: fracking).
Given the risk of a new trade war between the EU and the U.S., an increasing number of Western experts believe that the EU may once again choose Russia as its main supplier of natural gas.
The U.S. desperately needs a conflict in Europe, and will be satisfied with a war in Ukraine and Russia’s entanglement there or with an energy collapse in the EU, caused by gas supply disruptions from the Russian Federation.
The U.S. needs a good reason to shut down Nord Stream 2, because everyone in the West realizes that all is moving toward its logical conclusion: The pipeline will be certified in Germany shortly.
