The suspense has lasted for months. But on Wednesday, Sarah Palin finally confirmed the news that was increasingly suspected: She will not run in the 2012 race for the White House.

For weeks, however, John McCain’s former vice-presidential candidate had prepared everything. She had decided in 2009, in a surprising manner, to quit her job as governor of Alaska in order to increase her public appearances and speeches on Fox News.

Having become the top favorite of tea party populists, she has played "I will, I won’t" since the beginning of the year — saying that she was "ready to try to straighten out America if no one is willing to do so."* Discredited after her 2008 campaign for the vice-presidency, Palin recreated vigor and popularity with a certain Republican fringe.

Her main problem, however, is that her popularity rating at the national level remained very weak and that many believed that she did not possess the stature for the White House.

Speaking during a radio program, Sarah Palin thus stated that she would not run, but that she will “be even more active … to get the right people in there who have a servant’s heart. …”

In a way, it’s almost disappointing. The Republican race is already a bit crazy. With Sarah, it would have been a little more so. ...
