Big Bird Is at Fault!
One of the keys of a discussion is to focus on something foolish. For example, they could eliminate the salaries of the members of the House of Representatives or close the Senate. Maybe that would make us feel bad. But it is certain that this will not reduce the deficit. Mitt Romney, true to his word, made a new point in the debate with Obama on Wednesday [Oct. 4]. To reduce the deficit, he proposed shutting down the U.S. public television station, PBS.
The problem is that the U.S. deficit hovers around $1.3 billion (1 billion Euros, or approximately all of Spain’s GDP). In return, the cost of PBS for the taxpayer is about $450 million. In other words, that’s about $1.35 [per taxpayer].
Incidentally, Romney did not include that PBS gets more than half its budget from private donations. Its largest donor is David H. Koch, one of the largest funders of the tea party.
To all this, the U.S. has 5,300 M1 Abrams tanks. Of those, 3,000 are stored in a base in California because they are not necessary. Now Congress has approved to purchase another 42, at a price of $200 million, to support the possible reelection of Republican candidate Jim Jordan.
