Trump Is the Candidate of Antisemitism

The former president is cultivating his ostensible cluelessness. However, he knows full well that America’s far-right radicals are counting on him.

Donald Trump claims he didn’t know that his dinner guest Nick Fuentes is one of America’s most notoriously antisemitic citizens. According to Trump, he wouldn’t have been interested in the young far-right radical before and after the previous presidential election, even though Fuentes organized rallies for him and incited many Americans to defend Trump’s “stolen election victory.”

This can’t be ruled out; after all, Trump is seldom interested in people who are not named Donald Trump. Even if this were the case, the meeting proves the ineptitude of the former president, who wants to return to the White House. Trump doesn’t care who pays homage to him.

Déjà Vu That Doesn’t End

Trump’s campaign is one of déjà vu for an exhausted country. During the 2016 election, it was the neo-Nazi David Duke, once Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Trump happily bathed in his admiration before innocently asserting, “I don’t know anything about him.” By his own admission, Trump also knew “nothing” about the QAnon cult in 2020, whose disciples he has long been in the same boat with.

Trump is and remains the candidate of far-right radicals. For the same reason that they “forgive” him for his daughter who converted to Judaism, evangelicals let his un-Christian lifestyle slide: They want to make him their tool. Everyone knows this, even Trump.

Auszuschließen ist das nicht, schließlich interessiert sich Trump selten für Leute, die nicht Donald Trump heißen. Selbst wenn es so sein sollte, belegt das Treffen aber die Untauglichkeit des früheren Präsidenten, der ins Weiße Haus zurückkehren will. Trump schert sich nicht darum, wer ihm huldigt.

Trump ist und bleibt der Kandidat der Rechtsradikalen. Sie „verzeihen“ ihm seine zum Judentum konvertierte Tochter aus demselben Grund, aus dem ihm die Evangelikalen seinen unchristlichen Lebenswandel durchgehen ließen: Sie wollen ihn zu ihrem Werkzeug machen. Das weiß jeder, auch Donald Trump.
