The United States is making history at this moment in choosing, for the first time, a black man as the official candidate of the Democratic party. Barack Obama entered the campaign against a frank favorite and turned the tables within months of intense dispute in an overwhelming and emotional campaign which filled blacks with pride and impassioned the young. Moreover, the American democracy prepared a luxury stage for the defeated to present her dignified defeat.

Hillary Clinton's impressive speech began exactly where it should have: congratulating Barack Obama on his victory and reminding others that he is making history.

And saying she was proud to have disputed the primary with him.

With a just portrayal of the end of the campaign which she lost, but in which she showed impressive partial victories, Hillary gave her concession speech amid the state victory of South Dakota's primary.

Even in leaving the stage she left a message about the programs which need to be included in a democratic campaign and spoke of climate change as one of humanity's greatest current challenges.

In all, 35 million people voted in these impressive American democratic primaries. As she insisted on saying, vote by vote, 18 million of those votes went to her.

"More votes than in any other American primary"

She counted all the Florida and Michigan votes, which were not counted in their entirety and even those of Puerto Rico, which does not vote in the election. Due to all this, she has not said what her next step will be. She says she will decide this in the coming days. In other words, she did not say that she will accept becoming the vice-presidential candidate.

John McCain, the already chosen candidate of the Republican Party, made a stinging attack to his adversary shortly before his choice became a consummated fact. It will be a tough fight in the months to come.
