Thanks Biden!
The remarks of Vice President Joseph Biden came as little surprise, and in fact resemble those of the President of the Shura Council and the representative of the Supreme Leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
A few days ago, Biden apologized to Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, all of which he accused of funding and training jihadis in Syria.
In a speech last Thursday at Harvard University’s forum on U.S. policy in the Middle East, the vice president said: “The Turks, who are great friends — I have a great relationship with Erdogan, whom I spend a lot of time with — the Saudis, the Emiratis, etc. What were they doing? They were so determined to take down Assad and essentially have a proxy Sunni-Shia war."
This unsubstantiated claim, held also by the Assad regime, expresses Iran’s point of view, which Biden subsequently adopted completely.
He not only attacked Turkey, but continued to attack the Gulf states, or what he calls his “friends.” He accused them of terrorism and the financing thereof, making a proxy war and sending millions of dollars and weapons to topple Assad. The speech should have been addressed to Iran or the sectarian gangs in Lebanon, but the conspiracy is out in the open. Incidentally, the remarks coincided with a violent Iranian attack on Turkey.
The head of the Iranian Shura Council Ali Larijani said Thursday that the council "should not neglect the serious moves of Turkey in Syria and Iraq.”
Larijani’s comments also coincided with those of the Supreme Leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Brigadier General, who stated that the crisis in Iraq and Syria will move into Turkey if Ankara does not modify its behavior. The general implied that Turkey’s actions do not contribute to the security of the region and the world and accused it of supporting the Islamic State organization. Despite any Iranian-American consensus on the criminality of the Turkish position, the position of the Gulf states to criticize both of them is clear.
America and Iran retain Assad because the U.S. is in debt to Iran. Without Iran, the American military would have successfully invaded. But the hidden collusion between Washington and Tehran has led to the toppling of Arab capitals, one after the other.
Finally, we should thank Vice President Biden. There is no need to apologize because he only expressed the American position that some fools still refuse to believe: That America answers to no one and it is prepared to make deals with the devil to achieve its goals if necessary.
