U.S. courts are blocking Trump’s tariff chaos. There remains hope that the situation will bring more clarity to foreign trade.
This is how Donald Trump imagined his world as U.S. president: He gets up, presents countless executive orders, invokes emergency powers and imposes tariffs worldwide. But the game isn’t that easy after all — not even as U.S. president. A federal court has now denied Trump’s administration the authority to implement wide-ranging tariffs based on emergency powers legislation.
That holds. For now. With it, Trump’s aggressive trade policy, which shook financial markets worldwide, pushed the U.S. to the edge of financial crisis, and cost private investors a lot of money, is halted, at least for now. An appeal has been filed; the fight, in any case, will continue into the next round.

The important point is that, in the U.S., people are finally waking up and resisting Trump’s extremely erratic policy. That Trump wants to reshuffle trade relations may be understandable, but his announcements to date have not been.
