Message after the Deadly ICE Shooting: No One Is Safe
Even after Good’s death in Minneapolis, the U.S. government is counting on intimidation. That makes the protests all the more important.
Every video from each angle demonstrates that Renee Good in no way used her car as a “weapon” to kill an ICE agent. But this has not deterred the U.S. government from granting “absolute immunity” to the shooter and accusing the 37-year-old victim of domestic terrorism.
The radical message delivered via a shot to the head: Get out of the way when immigration authorities target immigrants, or you’ll be next. Even if you have a United States passport and are white: No one is safe, no one can rely on their rights.

And the message is going out repeatedly. According to U.S. statistics, ICE agents have already fired shots nine times since September. And this past Thursday, an ICE agent shot two people in Portland, Oregon.*
Nothing indicates that Donald Trump will change his brutal immigration policy. He is massively expanding ICE operations and at such a pace that training standards are not being met. Several leaked text messages confirm that some ICE agents are indulging their sadistic tendencies in the line of work.

But what can be done about this? There are still 11 months until the midterm elections and even they will not bring complete change. The weekend protests are a sign, but many more people need to take to the streets. They won't change Trump’s mind, but maybe an ICE agent will think twice before pulling a trigger. That would be a start.
