Donald Trump supports his kindred spirit.

In the Anglo-American world there is a saying: "That is the most absurd appointment since Caligula made his horse a consul."

This fits with The Wall Street Journal's report that Donald Trump wants to appoint the former Hungarian autocrat Viktor Orbán as U.N. secretary-general. Trump's proposal reportedly already has the support of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. This would be right up the alley of the wannabe autocrat and the two genuinely authoritarian rulers of Russia and China. Orbán has always been reliable when it comes to democratic destruction, anti-liberalism and corruption.

The other veto-wielding powers in the Security Council, the United Kingdom and France, will likely not agree with it. But a trilateral meeting between Trump, Putin and Xi is supposed to take place soon, and Orbán's nomination could be thought of as an amuse-bouche before the main course, which is a new division of the world.

His two "partners" certainly won't genuinely commit to such an arrangement, since they can manipulate Trump without giving him any real power. This has already been demonstrated. Incidentally, the story about Caligula’s horse was created by a malicious Roman historian, but otherwise there are actually many parallels between Caligula and Trump.
