Happy Birthday, America

On the fourth of July each year 300 million Americans and many people of the world commemorate America’s independence from Great Britain, the first union, and the foundation of democracy in the New World in 1776. On this day:

Happy Birthday, America!

Happy Birthday… The American flag is striped with different races.

Happy Birthday… The American people are free and spread their ideas and culture throughout the world.

Happy Birthday… Respect for religion, minorities, and human rights (naturally in the United States) prevails.

Happy Birthday… Civil law produces equality among all American citizens.

Happy Birthday… Economic opportunities are open to all.

Happy Birthday… Periodic elections do not know delay, nor is the president’s term extended, nor is leadership inherited.

Happy Birthday… The race for the presidency sees a competition between the two sexes, different races, and different religions, without any discrimination except in politics.

Happy Birthday… All kinds of American products blanket the world and compete strongly with global production.

Happy Birthday… American technology is among the best in the world in electronics, computers, means of transport and communication.

Happy Birthday… American scientific successes in all kinds of fields from athletics to physics to nuclear science to medicine to space research are a mark of distinction.

Happy Birthday… American cinema is a marvelous achievement unsurpassed in innovation, with unparalleled influence, and is the seventh art that is practically the father of all the other arts.

Happy Birthday… American television more and more is pulling away like the cinema; its series and programs are distributed all over the world and are recorded in all languages.

Happy Birthday… the American press is free.

Happy Birthday… Arabs of America: They celebrate the independence of their far-away countries while they experience the independence and freedom of their country, the United States, in which they can achieve their hopes and ambitions, to the envy of the rest of the Arabs who have not yet been able to attain this paradise.

But politics is different… Politics wasn’t then based on the people so much as the desires and preferences and inclinations and emotions. However American politics also produces wonders throughout the world:

Happy Birthday… The United States openly advertises its total support for Zionism against any Arabs, whether allies or enemies.

Happy Birthday… The United States is occupying a sovereign and independent nation.

Happy Birthday… The United States concocts and cans ready-made accusations of terrorism and possession of WMD and enrichment of uranium.

Happy Birthday… Guantanamo prison camp exists.

Happy Birthday… The United States promotes jingoism, isolationism, and seclusion in every region and manufactures threats which turn against it, as with Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.

Happy Birthday… The United States gulps down the wealth of its people and is never sated.

Happy Birthday… The Unites States interferes in the politics of nations, both foreign and domestic.

Happy Birthday… The United States supports the military power-grab in Pakistan and the entrenched monarchies in the Arab states, and supports hereditary succession, extension of presidencies, and leaderships that damage their foundations and the people under them through weariness and pain.

Happy Birthday… The United States kills people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia.

Happy Birthday… American weapons make wars across the globe and the wanton peddlers of arms, money, and influence feed off the corpses of men.

Happy Birthday… The United States rides roughshod over international organizations and their resolutions.

Happy Birthday… Bush is America’s president, Rice is its Secretary of State, and Cheney designs its policy.

And after that we must return to the free people of America on their Independence Day. The people of America who recognize Lady Liberty as their best representation. She is consistent with herself and does not permit anything in the world to infringe on the right of freedom granted to her at birth.

Happy Birthday… She and her nation enjoy independence and freedom, as perhaps our countries also wish to someday enjoy it, when the armies and the policies of the United States depart from us. That is, if we really want it.
