Obama Not With Us!

On June 4th, after the announcement of Barack Obama’s victory in the Democrat party primaries, Obama made a strong speech against Iran.

While he was giving a speech at the AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) he made strong comments against Iran, named Israel’s security his first priority and spoke about the “military option against Iran being still on the table” because of Israel’s security.

These speeches are given at a time in which Mr. Obama has successfully won the preliminaries against Hillary Clinton and is now the final candidate for the Democrat party. Prior to this, he was known for having a more moderate approach towards Iran, but he now knows that at this time he needs the support of AIPAC to win the key to the White House.

Since the issue of Iran has been one of the top discussions in the U.S. elections, Mr. Obama also has to, in turn, become involved in this issue.

The interpretation that some of the Iranian officials have from the U.S. elections, that Obama is with us and McCain is against us, seems too shallow at this time. In the case that one of them finds his way to the White House, it is U.S. national interests and the interests of some inside shadow groups like AIPAC that will shape the final decisions on Iran.

So, even if Mr. Obama enters the White House, it will definitely be the Obama that mentioned “the legitimacy of sanctions against Iran’s revolutionary guard corps,” “the military option being still on the table,” and “ maintaining Israel’s security and power” last night at AIPAC and not the Mr. Obama who wants to “negotiate with the Iranian president.”

Of course watching the declining attitude of Mr. Obama towards Iran also shows the powerful impact of the Israeli lobby. First he said he was going to “negotiate with President Ahmadinejad in any circumstances” after that he said that he will “ negotiate with other Iranian officials or the next president, but not Mr. Ahmadinejad” and now “the military option being still on the table!”

The fact is that during the past few months, Mr. Obama has retreated from his opinions towards Iran several times, and this is due to the pressure of the Anti-Iran lobbies active in Washington and his Neo-Con competitors that are accusing the 46-year-old Mr. Obama of underestimating the danger of Iran. To free himself from these accusation, he has no choice but to retreat from his position and show a harder attitude towards Iran.
