American Green Party Condemns the Israeli Offensive

Edited by Louis Standish

The Green Party in the U.S. condemned the Israeli offensive which has continued since last Saturday on the Gaza strip, accusing outgoing President George Bush of giving Israel the green light to launch its aggressive attack.

The party called for an immediate end to Israeli air strikes on the Gaza strip in a statement published Thursday on their Web site. These attacks have caused the death of over 400 people and injured over 2000, including women and children.

Rosa Clemente, the party candidate for vice president in the presidential election last November, said that it is obvious President Bush gave Israel the green light to launch it’s show of force. She added that the party called for the U.S. to work towards a mutual cease-fire agreement by putting the pressure on Israel to immediately halt its air strikes and to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Remember that Cynthia McKinney, the party candidate for president, was among the passengers aboard the “Free Gaza” ship the “S.S. Dignity,” which Israeli forces prevented from reaching Gaza. It was intercepted by Israeli naval forces after leaving the port of Larnaca in Cyprus last week and damaged. The ship was forced to dock at the Lebanese port of Tyre.
