Obama Extends Wishes for Chinese New Year

On January 26th, U.S. President Obama extended New Year greetings to everyone celebrating Lunar New Year around the world. This is the first congratulatory address Obama has given since taking office.

Obama said, “I send my warmest wishes to people across Asia, in America, and indeed around the world who are celebrating the Lunar New Year and welcoming the Year of the Ox.” He added, “Americans of Asian descent carry on the vibrant traditions of their forefathers and enrich America’s cultural diversity. I wish all those celebrating the New Year to be blessed with peace, prosperity, and good health.”

With Obama having held office as President for not even a week, such a considerate offering of best wishes for the Lunar New Year is clearly to the credit of Cabinet Secretary Chris Lu, making his first appearance in the White House.
