Obama and the Two Slaveries

There are two kinds of slavery: the one we force onto others and the one one forces onto oneself. President Obama denounced both of these during his important stay at Accra. The first type is historical: the oppression that dark-skinned human beings went through, treated as cattle and exiled against their will.

The other one is contemporary. For the Africans, it consists of believing they cannot master their destinies and must depend upon others.

Barack Obama called all Africans to free themselves from this self-inflicted oppression and to control their own destinies. “The West is not responsible for the destruction of the Zimbabwean economy over the last decade,” he said. He forcefully hammered in the fact that he does not believe in excuses, and justly advised and invited the African states to exercise their sense of responsible good governance.

This is an important call for the rebirth of a free Africa who would master her destiny.
