Hegemonies Only Have an Eye Out for Crimes against Western Interests

For the past few days, the United States, France, Britain and other countries have already conducted several rounds of air raids on Libya. With the bombing of oil pipelines, civilian casualties, more anxiety and turbulence of Libya’s domestic situation, peace-loving people around the world once again profoundly realized that hegemonies only have an eye out for crimes against Western interests.

The hypocrisy of the self-proclaimed “human rights defender” was completely exposed again in the Libyan crisis and war. Why did France, once the first opponent against the U.S. war on Iraq, become so belligerent and make a high-profile debut this time? Even European public opinion has already clearly interpreted France’s self-interested calculation: First, it intends to show the country’s international influence through this war; second, it aims to clear the way for establishing a Mediterranean smart blueprint; and lastly, it hopes to ensure its economic and energy interests in important oil-producing countries in Africa.

If Western interests are violated and world peace, human rights and morality are left behind, Western countries will tear off the offender’s false face and reveal their nature of bullying and military intervention, throwing caution to the wind.

When looking at the trends in recent days, although Libya announced an immediate ceasefire before and was willing to engage in dialogue with the opponents, Western countries were still too impatient to wait to launch a military intervention after the United Nations passed the no-fly zone resolution as a result of their elaborate conspiracy. This is beyond U.N. authorization; this arbitrary act of interference in another country’s internal affairs completely violated the U.N. Charter. Therefore, in spite of its mantra of “protecting human rights” and “defending civilians,” none of these claims can excuse its consolidation of local economic and political interests in those countries. Although these “power thugs” have given various allegations on Libya and Gadhafi before beating them, the core and nature of the allegations are nothing more than accusations of getting in the way of and blocking the way for Western interests.
