American "Experts" Uncover the West's Key Weapon against Russia, Ukraine, Moldova

Certain American experts held a press conference in Kiev regarding the “Presidential Elections in Transdniestria and Ukraine’s role in 5+2* Talks,” during the course of which they made a series of sensationalist revelations and disclosures, RBK-Ukraine reported on September 7.

In particular, it was an official lobbyist, Deputy Executive Director of the American Institute in Ukraine James Jatras, who stated, “Kiev must take on a more active role considering that Bucharest’s chauvinistic circles are not hiding that their plans with regard to Moldova include not only Transdniestria, but also parts of Ukraine.” Note that such touching concern over Ukraine and Moldova’s “territorial integrity” and the harsh comment about Bucharest’s chauvinistic circles come from the representative of a country that has encouraged Romania’s eastward expansion in every way possible and that is determined to bring components of its missile defense onto Romanian territory.

But the sensationalism did not end there. John Holsman, general director of a commercial enterprise bearing the same name, who was mysteriously presented as a “consultant to NATO member-state European governments” (his official autobiography mentions no word of this), elaborated on his colleague’s thought. According to him, for the realization of its insidious plan, Bucharest intends to engage the ex-speaker of the Transdniestrian Supreme Soviet and former leader of the Renewal party, Yevgeny Shevchuk, a candidate in the upcoming December 11 Transdniestrian presidential election.

The American consultant to European governments stated, “Shevchuk should be viewed as a so-called ‘orange’ candidate pleasing to the West, who is prepared to replace the incumbent president Igor Smirnov. Shevchuk is among the leaders of a new formation that the West enjoys working with. He is a ‘technocrat’ deeply committed to democratic reform and doing away with the corrupt autocracy dominated by Igor Smirnov and his bosom friends. Shevchuk is considered a ‘pragmatic’ reformer who aspires to direct Transdniestria toward Euro-Atlantic (and pro-Moldovan, pro-Romanian) collaboration.” It’s interesting to wonder whether the unidentified NATO member-state European governments are aware which secrets their “consultant” was publicly divulging in Kiev — and divulging them as if he had continuously worked for the Soviet newspaper Pionerskaya Pravda over the last 40 years, spending the last 20 specializing in preparing easily recognizable sponsored articles.

Furthermore, the American “experts” once and for all revealed the Euro-Atlantic conspiracy by stating that in the event of a successful campaign by Shevchuk, he will owe his victory to the West and its support. He will accordingly have no choice but to accept settlement conditions dictated by the West. His victory, according to them, would thus be conducive to the realization of Western political interests, characterized by efforts to adjoin Transdniestria to Moldova and Moldova in turn to Romania, a NATO member. This is precisely why the West will actively support him in his bid for the presidential post.

So who, by the words of either Washington or Moscow envoys, could resist such a threatening “weapon of the West”? Is there even the slightest chance of resistance? If the masked experts from the United States stay up all night worrying, there must be. The American consultants didn’t bother making a secret out of this either, letting the journalists present at the press conference breathe a sigh of relief and use the crib notes they had prepared beforehand.

The superhero turned out to be none other than Anatoliy Kaminski, the current leader of the Renewal party and speaker of the Transdniestrian parliament, whom Holsman, yawning with incorruptibility, called a “candidate from the opposition” and simultaneously “a man of Moscow.” In this regard it is worth mentioning that the Renewal party enjoys a parliamentary majority and utmost support of the Russian Federation’s governing United Russia party. Meanwhile, if not everything, then at least very much in Transdniestria depends on Moscow, including the financial assistance that has been renewed with Kaminski’s candidacy announcement and is now in the process of being allocated. According to Holsman, Kaminski will “seek to ensure that Transdniestria ‘embraces’ Russia in the long term and decides against any unification with Moldova or, beyond that, Romania.”

Jatras (who, in his autobiography, wrote that he scored “numerous appearances in the mass media at the order of his clients”) observed that “Kaminski demonstrates loyalty only in relation to Russia, and if he wins, then Russia will likely somehow allow for the ‘sale’ of Transdniestria’s statehood.” Such an apology from the lips of a masked enemy is worrisome: If even the masked enemy spent so much effort describing the incorruptible Kaminski, then it seems the organizers of the circus really are worried about how to clear Kaminski from any suspicions that he will adjoin and sell Transdniestria.

As for the three favorites for the Transdniestrian presidential election, the experts named the anarchist, Smirnov, pro-Western, Shevchuk, and man of Moscow, Kaminski. At the conclusion of the revelations, Holsman noted, “Judging by everything, there is a general consensus between Western and Eastern observers that Smirnov is an obstacle to the settlement of the Transdniestrian question. While he remains in power in Transdniestria, which he considers his patrimonial domain, Transdniestria will be considered a corruption-afflicted backwoods.” Jatras added that while both Smirnov and Kaminski insist on Transdniestria’s independence, “Smirnov offered only rhetoric about independence, keeping Transdniestria in its present status as an occupied stronghold suffering from stagnation, which in turn makes it prone to the idea of independence.”

With regard to all of the aformentioned, only one question arises. Exactly for which dupes was this parochial farce, organized by the American “children of Lieutenant Smith” in the Ukrainian capitol, intended? For those at least partially in the know, the above citations should be sufficient to understand that the affair had an exceptionally agenda-driven character, not one iota straying terminologically or stylistically from theses already disseminated by, for example, figures such as Konstantin Kosachev and others for several months in Moscow and Transdniestrian press circles. Indeed, this time the agenda was completed with a rare incompetence. The sensationalism of the Americans on tour not only, in a most surprising way, corresponds with the base propaganda and comics of the newspaper, Kommersant, as well as the theses and interests of Kaminski’s lobbyists in the parliament and presidential administration of the Russian Federation, but moreover displays these theses with such falsity that it’s time to question the intellectual capacity of the clients. The falsity stems from there.

The thing is that these lobbyists officially (that is, outside of the circus) support the territorial integrity of Moldova and the European solution to the Moldovan-Transdniestrian conflict. Yet through the mass media they try to eliminate talk of the sale of Transdniestria’s statehood, a sale which they are preparing themselves, since this is not only the weakest but the most disastrous plank of their presidential candidate’s platform. So who was it that the American consultants revealed again?

* “5+2” refers to a format established in the Transdniestrian conflict settlement (Transdniestria and Moldova as participating parties; Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE as mediators; and the EU and the U.S. as observers).
