Hundreds of Occupy Wall Street Protesters Gather Again

Occupy Wall Street protesters marched to the vicinity of New York’s stock market to commemorate the two-month anniversary of its founding. Last Tuesday, the police evicted the encampment at Zuccotti Park.

Hundreds of Occupy Wall Street demonstrators walked today again toward Wall Street, two days after the security forces evicted their camp at Zuccotti Park in New York.

The movement used social media over the Internet to call for a protest against the financial district of the city, in what would become one of the largest protest activities organized up until now.

The police have increased security measures surrounding Wall Street, which in turn, was already cordoned off two months ago. Both fences and the riot police have denied the protesters access to the heart of the financial district, while those who turned up to work had to face severe controls.

Occupy Wall Street has been protesting since mid-September against the financial power of the banks and in favor of greater social justice. Michael Bloomberg, New York City’s mayor, demanded last Tuesday the clearance of the initial encampment at Zuccotti Park.

As of right now, it’s not clear what the movement’s future will be after this eviction. With winter coming, some demonstrators assume that protests may even decrease temporarily.
