LA PAZ, Bolivia (DPA) – In a statement directed towards the militants of his party, Bolivian President Evo Morales threatened to close the U.S. Embassy accredited in the country, if this embassy “continues bothering Bolivia” reported the news agency ABI on Sunday.

Morales met with his brethren from the governing party, Movement Towards Socialism, on Saturday night, in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba, where he also criticized the media and accused his opponents of “magnifying” the social protests.

“If the U.S. Embassy continues bothering Bolivia, as it is doing now, then it is best we close the United States Embassy in Bolivia,” Morales said at the political meeting.

The president, who has accused the U.S. government of conspiring in his country since 2006, remarked that its (the governing party’s) political project consists of “anti-imperialists, anti-capitalists and anti-neoliberals,” but asked his brethren fellows to prevent fractures.

Bolivia and the United States have not had ambassadors in their respective capitals since Bolivian President Evo Morales expelled the U.S. delegate, Goldberg Philp, from La Paz, in October 2008, for alleged interference in political issues.
