Madam Secretary’s Trip

Edited by Janie Boschma

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Saudi Arabia and Turkey during her official trip. This visit is significant for three reasons. Firstly, part of this trip comprises America’s specific objectives for Saudi Arabia. On the one hand, Americans are afraid of the world oil price situation, and on the other hand, they are attempting to convince other nations with Saudi Arabia that an Iranian oil embargo will not affect the world market so that they will cooperate with America’s excessive demands against Iran, which have not been successful so far. America’s goal is to prevent an increase in oil prices by establishing a type of artificial stability so that — even more importantly — the issues of oil and gas don’t increase pressures on President Obama.

The important point is that America has had serious concerns over internal developments within Saudi Arabia and popular protests in the region. One could regard Clinton’s trip as a kind of announcement of American support for the suppression of the people. Approving Saudi Arabian policies of killing the people of Yemen and Bahrain is a part of this relationship. In this respect, Obama needs to revive the Middle East peace process for the election, so part of Clinton’s trip is for this purpose.

Secondly, another portion of Clinton’s trip is comprised of talks with Turkey. In recent months, the two countries have pursued expanding ties in the form of bilateral and NATO interactions. This appears to be due to their mutual alliance in regards to regional developments, Libya, Afghanistan and the implementation of the American missile shield in Turkey. While America uses the Zionist regime [in Israel] as its military arm in the region, it strives to make use of Turkey for political leverage, especially in Arabic countries where it has no hope of any. Of course, some of America’s actions, such as supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and positioning against Turkey in the European Union, have had negative effects on its relationship with Turkey.

Thirdly, the most important point of Clinton’s trip is the common goals pursued by Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The central purpose of these actions is the meddling of these countries in regional developments, especially the confrontation with the resistance front based in Syria, and their drive towards relations with the Zionists. Americans strive to utilize Turkey and Saudi Arabia to rule over the region so that after deployment of the missile shield in Turkey, they have raised the issue of establishing another in Saudi Arabia.

The course of developments indicates that Americans are ultimately pursuing their own unilateral benefits and those of the Zionists by meddling with these countries in the name of expanding their regional influence. This objective disregards the positions of these nations in dealing with the Zionists. In any case, Clinton’s visit to the region can be considered a result of the internal and external challenges facing America. Meanwhile, Washington is trying to exploit these countries to secure their own interests in the region by creating regional crises. This strategy ultimately sacrifices both Saudi Arabia and Turkey for America’s benefit.
