The Brotherhood Is an American Creation

Your joy, oh Egypt, in President Morsi — and in the Muslim Brotherhood — is genuinely happy news. The Egyptian streets are united by a state of joy, and everyone is happy, gratified and content. But the question is: for how long? The party of the Muslim Brotherhood currently enjoys the support of the majority of destitute Egyptians, and most of them are uneducated, poor and deprived.

Unfortunately, most people turn to religion when their suffering increases. They believe religion will solve all their problems, but past experiences in Iran and Afghanistan have proven that this is merely a fantasy, not true at all. Still, however, our people live this fantasy, this dream. Religion and obstinacy will not solve our people’s problems, will not end poverty and backwardness, will not feed a single person and will not satisfy hunger. On the contrary, we have witnessed what has happened in Afghanistan under the Taliban and in Iran, just as we have seen Gaza under the rule of Hamas: poverty has continued and increased, as has suffering.

Unfortunately, the Arab-Muslim people live in a state of disappointment, and the primary reason for this is the simplemindedness of those people. Did you know that the people of America are the ones who created the Taliban and, in the same way, the Muslim Brotherhood and even al-Qaida? They did so for a specific goal: to make war against the Russians. As for the Brotherhood: Why and how has this movement been formed? What created its raison d’etre, its goals and aims and its funding? What has allowed it to continue?

He who knows history well realizes that America is the largest funder for this party and has contributed to its foundation, to the contrary of what some might think. The party’s relationship to America is a natural and deep-seated one, if not to say intimate. All this has occurred throughout the passing of many years, and the policy of the party goes together with American policy; it seems very clear now. Yes, America has contributed, and it has done so to ensure the success of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt’s elections. Mohammed Morsi was named president of the country, and yes, his appointment came with American blessing and support.

Certainly, President Morsi looks to develop this relationship and to visit Washington, and he shall be an honored and well-supported guest of the Americans.

The address given lately by one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood party was certainly noteworthy after the events of the riots in response to the film “Innocence of Muslims,” which some consider to be purposefully provocative to Muslims. The Muslim Brotherhood party was the first to absolve America, defend it from any wrongdoing and neutralize any hostile attempt to target the interests of Americans. Likewise, it repudiated attacks on American embassies and harming Americans.

The Brotherhood’s experiment will differ from the experiments of the Taliban, al-Qaida and other extremist fundamentalist predecessors who came to power through American efforts. Or perhaps the scenarios of these organizations will be replayed, with America contributing to the impoverishment and retrograding of these countries. Egypt now is passing through the same stage, and the issue is decided already: At what time will the Brotherhood’s failure to rule show itself, not only in Egypt but in all Muslim countries?
