American Election: Obama Resumes Control a Month Before the Vote

It was a combative Barack Obama who participated in the second presidential debate. The first black president of the United States effectively showed that he hasn’t lost his bite on Tuesday evening, during his second verbal joust with his opponent Mitt Romney. Far ahead of the Mormon Republican Romney on social networks, the White House resident seems to be ready to stay on for four more years.

This time, Obama, no longer holding back against his Republican rival, revealed his fighting side, reminiscent of his early days. By the end of 50 minutes of bombardment, Mitt Romney had clearly lost his stride next to Obama, fresh, steady and on the offensive. The two contenders met each other at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, a large New York suburb, where they answered questions from 100 voters chosen by the independent polling institution Gallup, relating to domestic and international politics, the economy, economic recovery and social development.

Obama dwelled on the topics that torment the most undecided voters of this 2012 campaign, in which white middle-class women are most preoccupied with abortion and grants for family planning centers. In contrast, the health system and education were not central topics, and were much closer to the Republican propaganda. He also spent time developing the issue of young people entering the work force by announcing a plan to reduce student debt, a break for a healthy start in life and one of the topics of this election.

As for the question of taxation, the debate showed once again that Romney is dedicated to reducing taxes for the most wealthy. The poor and middle classes approved. More “Bush-like” than the Bush leaders, the father and son who lived in the White House, Romney promised the industrial-military complex an extension of two trillion dollars. He is also considering federal budget cuts to reduce state spending to $8 trillion. His argument: “I was someone who ran businesses for 25 years, and balanced the budget.”

With Romney, not only the Democratic camp but also columnists say that the impoverishment of the middle class will accelerate. The Republican promised to hunt down those dependent on the state, which he says is approximately 47 percent of the American population.
