Israel’s 911 Bunker

Edited by Jane Lee

Only U.S. contractors can compete — the purpose of the subterranean construction in an air base near Tel Aviv, at a cost of $100 million, has not been revealed to them but it seems to have the characteristics of a command center for the Israeli Defense Forces.

It is known as “Site 911.” If one adds a slash to that number, it would come out as “9/11,” the same as the U.S. form of stating the date Sept. 11, 2001, when the twin towers were toppled and George W. Bush (the son) found the possibility to unleash an infinite war on everyone under the nomenclature of the “war on terror.” Could the bunker be part of this imperialist objective?

On Nov. 28, Walter Pincus published in The Washington Post that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would supervise the completion of the five underground floors. In describing the installation, which is expected to take two years to construct, he affirmed that classrooms would go on the first level with an auditorium on the third level, and he also spoke of a laboratory, shock-resistant doors, protection against non-ionizing radiation and very tight security, which included authorization for all construction workers and strong surveillance by guards on the perimeter fences and barriers that will separate this space from the rest of the air base.

This is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that U.S. military engineers have worked in Israel, given the tight military-political relationship between the two countries. Past projects include facilities for nuclear missiles; thus, Walter Pincus states that he has been told Site 911 is at the top-secret Israeli missile base Sdot Micha situated near Beit Shemesh, some 30 kilometers from Jerusalem, which already stores the nuclear-armed ICBM Jerichos.

He also notes that all signs indicate Pentagon control, which is due to the fact that the financing of this military installation comes from the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.

On Oct. 24, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner and Israeli Director General of the Ministry of Finance Doron Cohen signed a general agreement to maintain a program that would have expired this year, which extended loans to Israel by $4 billion until the year 2016. This is a gesture that evidenced the permanent relationship between the U.S. and Israel barely a week ahead of the presidential elections, which resulted in delivering the White House to Obama once again.

This sum was independent of the $10 billion given annually in military aid to Israel. In the year 2007, the then-administrator of the White House, George W. Bush, agreed to a military aid package that would cost $30 billion over a period of 10 years.

It is undeniable that U.S. aid to Israel is sacred, to the point that it is regularly sent in the first 30 days of the fiscal year.

Incidentally, at the beginning of October the leaders of 15 churches sent a letter to the U.S. Congress seeking an investigation in order to assure that U.S. military aid to Israel had not been utilized in violations of Palestinians’ human rights.

It was ignored when Israel indiscriminately bombed the Gaza Strip and women and children numbered highest among the victims. After all, the U.S. does the same with its drones when it bombs the tribal border zones of Pakistan and Afghanistan, supposedly against the Taliban. But the majority of the victims are also children, the elderly and women.

Returning to the 911 bunker, Israel and the United States act as if the Zionist state were going to be the target of a nuclear attack tomorrow, when those weapons have already been in their hands for some time. And in the case of the Zionist state, it has not even signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which it had just been exhorted to do by the U.N. General Assembly, and it has not opened the doors to its nuclear installations, such as the one in Dimona for example, to inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency.

But with both nations it is an attitude of “do as I say, not as I do,” and Israel is preparing for a war that it irresponsibly would be willing to start in order to put ethnic cleansing into practice and create the Great Israel.
