Blackmailing Obama

Politics, according to Machiavelli, is the way rulers maintain power at any cost, even killing, chasing and trampling over the people.

Machiavellianism undermines the spirit of certain leaders of the United States, which we presume to be an exemplary democracy and a free country; however, we must admit that we are not so much that because democracy, first and foremost, consists of social justice and policies that protect the people and defend the right of a society to live equally with security, education and health.

The extreme right of the U.S. is a powerful and wicked group, masked in an association with fascist tints called the tea party, the “patriots.” From their barracks, reserved only for privileged groups, they favor economic interests of specific groups.

What has happened in recent days, forcing the federal government to shutdown, is nothing more than blackmail against Obama, who has told the truth by accusing Republicans of holding the country hostage over ideological matters.

The Republican Party — the tea party, behind the scenes — is leading a malicious strategy, smoothing the way with the goal of regaining power in 2016 and promoting the interests of large corporations that provide a lot of money to their campaigns.

At the helm of the battle is the plan known as “Obamacare,” which extends Medicaid coverage — a health care program for low-income individuals — to people who lack a system that protects them completely. “Obamacare” prohibits insurance companies from rejecting users based on pre-existing conditions or gender. It will give access to affordable medical insurance to more than 30 million people who now do not have that privilege.

It mandates that everyone have medical insurance by 2014, and those earning below four times the poverty line will receive subsidies to pay for health insurance. It obliges businesses with more than 50 employees to cover this basic protection. It permits young adults, up to age 26, to use their parents’ insurance.

But evil and greed are the mothers of distortion. They have told the people that the Obama health plan is socialist and those who earn more will pay for the program. Why such selfishness from those who are better off, not sacrificing a little to help the needy? Others say that this will favor only Hispanics and African-American communities, accused of squeezing the government and being unproductive. That is a fallacy.

What is occurring in the U.S. Congress is a demonstration of how far the powerful and multimillionaires are capable of going to look after their own interests and profits: read, among others, the pharmaceuticals and insurance companies, which operate as legalized mafias.

These individuals will do the impossible to continue discrediting and corralling the government, and they will use new Machiavellian strategies to destroy Obama’s image, which will have to gather the arsenal to confront the blackmails of these medieval bandits.
