US Looking for an Easy WayTo Cut Off the Nuclear Subject

Amos Yadlin, former head of Aman — the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate — believes that the latest crossroads to the decision between “the ‘bomb’ or the ‘bombing’” will be at the end of this year or the start of 2014. If it becomes clear by that time that negotiations with Iran are not yielding the desired results, he will be in favor of Israel embarking on an operation to eliminate the Iranian nuclear program and is completely certain of our ability to be able to do so successfully. Published around 10 days ago, these were Yadlin’s words to The New Republic.

However, it should be made clear that the most efficient option remains the pressure of sanctions. This means that the American laxity and disappearance from the area does not bode well. The Obama administration did not have the determination for a military operation to destroy the nuclear ability of the Iranians. Now, the race to negotiations with Iran, at the expense of the sanctions, smells like Washington wanting to finish up final arrangements in the Middle East and go home. To put it mildly, it is something along the lines of Israel’s swift retreat from southern Lebanon in 2000.

Therefore, Obama’s will and that of his people to keep American Judaism under control, so that it does not raise difficulties for the government on the subject of sanctions against Iran, raises concern. The readiness of heads of Jewish organizations to provide Obama with what is known as “industrial quiet” on the matter of sanctions for the near future is shameful. It needs to be understood that America is seeking the easiest way to cut off all contact from Iranian nuclear matters. It is showing its intent to renew the relationship between the two nations and is not going to let a few centrifuges and several hundred kilograms of enriched uranium stand in its way.

Why is it doing this? The answer lies in another question: Why did it publicize an intelligence agency report in November 2007, six years ago, that concluded that Iran had ceased its operations to develop nuclear weapons? Incidentally, this was during the era of George W. Bush, not Obama. This report was probably the greatest damage done to the efforts to halt the Iranian nuclear race.

Why Is the American Jewish Establishment Submitting to the White House?

So, why is the establishment of American Jews willing to submit like this before the White House, and why is the White House, particularly in Obama’s days, busy trying to control the way Jews conduct their own business? The organization leaders who met with National Security Adviser Susan Rice could have answered her very simply: We are U.S. citizens, and we will attack the president every time he shows us he is not working in accordance with the interest of America or that of its allies, such as Israel.

In the past, alongside Israel, American Jews have not hesitated to lead a tough struggle for the Jews of the Soviet Union, despite the White House accusing them of turning U.S. foreign policy into a hostage of the Israeli immigration issue. Today, although support for Israel on the streets of America has grown, Jews keep a low profile and behave in a fearful manner. The reason for this is a section of “court” Jews who have established themselves in the United States — no more than an elitist handful — who have succeeded in creating an impression in the media of a split in Jewish public opinion. A split leads to polarization; among Jewish leaders, even its biggest supporters would not want to be seen as those who serve Israel’s interests.

According to Yadlin, the desired outcome at the end of the negotiations with Iran is the withdrawal of its nuclear project to a distance of two years from a bomb. For example, this would mean the removal of all uranium enriched to 3.5 percent from Iran. As the situation stands today, with the U.S. government wounded in its relationship with Europe, stricken with weakness, failing on every front, and its strategies led by failing amateurs, it is difficult to see Iran being intimidated into fulfilling demands. The only way to make it take the matter seriously is to prove that any delays will cost it dearly.

This can be done solely by readying additional paralyzing sanctions. The U.S. Congress is capable of this, and it would be ridiculous for the Jewish lobby to stop it, precisely in the way that it pressed for organizing Congress on an attack on Syria. If anyone is searching for Obama’s cynical essence, here it is: At every decision crossroads, his message looks something like it’s not me, it’s the Jews.
