History Is a Reminder that Bill Clinton Is a Ticking Time Bomb

So, is Hillary Clinton’s dream of the White House in danger now? Maybe not. However, the story of Liz Hurley is a reminder that her husband, Bill Clinton, is a ticking time bomb.

It was mostly British newspapers and tabloids in the United States that ran with the story that Bill Clinton and Liz Hurley had had an affair when he was president. Liz Hurley sharply denied the claims on Twitter; seriously speaking, some of the details in the story do not seem very credible.

Meanwhile, in a headline about Hillary Clinton, the weekly publication Globe Magazine states on its front page that the “new scandal could wreck Hillary’s presidential bid.”

I do not believe it for a moment.

If only for the sake of form, we should note that Hillary Clinton has not said one way or another whether she plans to run in 2016, but there are many indications that she may. And she has an enormous lead in the polls already taken. She completely outclasses the likely Democratic rival, Vice President Joe Biden, and also crushes various conceivable Republican rivals.

Actually, it can only go downhill for her. She cannot hold on to this kind of head start. The Globe’s article is probably just a taste of what is to come. As we know, Bill Clinton has had major problems in the past keeping his pants up. What he has been up to on that front since he moved out of the White House, we do not know much about. Not yet, anyway.

Even in 2008, when Hillary fell to Barack Obama in the primaries, Bill Clinton showed that he can put his foot in his mouth with thoughtless statements.

At the same time, he can be an enormous asset. It was partly his brilliant speech during the Democratic convention in 2012 that rescued Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.

Bill Clinton remains a political genius. If Hillary is to run, his presence by her side can be a blaze of fireworks. Yet, he may also be the mine than detonates and destroys. It is worth seeing what he will be, whatever happens.
