China Needs To Have Truth in Place in Order to Demonstrate Its Qualities as an 'Awakening Lion'

Chinese Army Chief General Fang Fenghui and American Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dempsey recently held a joint press conference, clarifying some controversial issues and China’s attitude toward the East and South Seas. After the conference, Dempsey still maintained that the U.S. will insist on the rebalancing of the Asia-Pacific.

In fact, this is the same as the excuse by Obama and other officials to legitimize that the Diaoyu Islands belong to the Japanese government, using the Security Treaty in order to violate China’s sovereignty and to contain China. However, Chief General Fang conveyed the truth and China’s voice during the press conference, which broke the deliberate verbal negligence of the West.

Public clamor can confound right and wrong. Accumulated defamation melts the bone. Although China is now the second largest economy in the world, America is still the strongest country in terms of its economy, politics, etc. The West, led by the U.S., controls the discourse of the world. America’s propaganda is aimed at externally oriented strategies and policy. Those who are dedicated to America’s external strategies, such as Samuel Huntington, Henry Kissinger and Condoleezza Rice, are all disciples of dual determinism, which means that U.S. external strategy and policy are determined by realist idealism and realist interests. However, what drives its idealism is American exceptionalism, which ignores its weaknesses and displays only the strategic monism which is oriented toward realizing its material interests. Therefore, in order to maintain global hegemony and to contain China, it tries very hard to defame China, disregarding the facts.

Thus, America exploits the advantages of its status as a “world policy” and deliberately confuses facts in its propaganda. Even though it knows that the Diaoyu Islands belong to China, it still supports Japan. At the same time, it “rarely” remains silent regarding the Philippines’ attempt at fooling and arresting Chinese fishermen by dressing its police as fishermen on May 6.

However, it is not impossible to break this circle of fake propaganda led by the U.S., taking advantage of asymmetrical information. Although the United Sates’ national strategy is essentially interest-oriented, the Western world, led by the U.S., shares a culture that is constituted of democracy, freedom and equality, which provides opportunities for us to tell the world the truth. For example, American director Chris D. Nebe directed the first documentary about the Diaoyu Islands, “Diaoyu Islands: The Truth,” is on in America, showing that the Diaoyu Islands were China’s territory in ancient times.

Apart from accelerating reforms regarding politics, economy, society, culture and other aspects to enhance its strength, preventing with great determination other countries’ actions from impeding on sovereignty, and changing its outmoded part of the “hiding its ability” strategy, China particularly needs to spread the truth with greater strength and with wider scope in order to maintain its sovereign rights and guard its further social economic development.

In short, China has to demonstrate to the world: China, an awakening lion, is full of positive energy, and qualities such as “justice, strong will and responsibility,” in addition to “peace, civilization and amiability!”
