One country returns, and everything is reset. Of course, it’s still far from being over. There is still plenty of opposition, and there are multiple obstacles. But the agreement reached in Vienna between Iran and the great powers has the ability to change Iran and the great powers themselves. Nothing less, since it’s about reversing the very foundations on which a huge portion of the world relies.
The demonization of a pivotal country like Iran, in a region that is no less central? We must believe that it’s proved a convenience to both sides for it to have been preserved so long. Israel, Saudi Arabia, certain countries from the Gulf, American authorities seduced by Manicheism … To this list of opponents of common sense, we must add the Iranian leaders themselves whose opposition to the “Great Satan” has often served as their only calling card.
It is necessary to roll back, one by one, all the steps that led to Iran being placed on the margins of the world. But once started, the project could speed up. The end to this (very) long episode seems to be near, just around the corner.
It was time! The Middle East wholeheartedly claims this “normalization.” All plans must finally be exposed so light can be shed on the true role played by each party. So that Iran, which already plays a dominating role in the region, can no longer hide behind pretexts and doublespeak, and instead come out from behind the curtains!
If the Obama administration seems to be exemplary in overthrowing these relics inherited from the past, it still remains complicit in the current cataclysm. By putting all of its focus on the agreement to be concluded with Iran, it allowed the situation in Syria to go sour, put up with its narrow-minded and uncontrollable Saudi ally for too long and refused to take full responsibility for Iraq. Today, to restore order to this confusion, the United States needs a strong and responsible Iran by its side. It’s a major change in the world. It is the only one that can, perhaps, put an end to the chaos.
