Trump Launches Scare Campaign To Attract Votes for Republicans

Donald Trump has made statements in which he predicts acts of violence if his party loses in the midterm elections.

In the event that his party loses its majority in Congress in the upcoming November elections, Donald Trump has warned that there will be acts of violence by the left against religious and conservative leaders, provided that Republicans lose control over both houses.

Using a tone that seems somewhat over the top for a president, Trump made these remarks last Monday at the White House before evangelical pastors, warning them that, if Democrats manage to control Congress, they will roll back all that he has done for conservative Christians, according to recordings obtained by the media.

“They will end everything immediately,” Trump said, apparently alluding to the Democrats, according to the recordings obtained by The New York Times, CNN and NBC News. “They will overturn everything that we’ve done and they’ll do it quickly and violently. There’s violence. When you look at “antifa”, and you look at some of these groups, these are violent people,” added the president of the United States.*

Persuading His Followers

The president stated that “[t]he level of hatred, the level of anger” against him on the part of some “is unbelievable,” and he asked the evangelical leaders to persuade their congregations to vote Republican in November.

“[T]his Nov. 6 election is very much a referendum on not only me, it’s a referendum on your religion, it’s a referendum on free speech and the First Amendment” of the United States Constitution, which protects such liberties, Trump said.

“You have to hopefully get out and get people to support us. If you don’t, that will be the beginning of ending everything that you’ve gotten,” he emphasized.

“I just ask you to go out and make sure all of your people vote. Because if they don’t – it’s Nov. 6 – if they don’t vote, we’re going to have a miserable two years and we’re going to have, frankly, a very hard period of time, because then it just gets to be one election (the 2020 presidential election) – you’re one election away from losing everything you’ve got,” he added.

Re-election of Congress

The purpose of the U.S. November elections will be to fill the 435 seats in the House of Representatives and a third of the 100 seats in the Senate. They are popularly known as “midterm” elections, because they traditionally presuppose a vote on the sitting president.**

Trump took advantage of the assembly with the religious leaders to praise some of his actions and boast about the executive order he signed last year, which eased the restrictions on political activities of churches, when he asked that his administration not act against tax-exempt religious organizations that wished to endorse political candidates or take part in partisan activities.

*Editor’s note Antifa is an abbreviation for anti-fascist, and is a radical left group.

**Editor’s note: Midterm elections in the United States are the general elections held in November every four years, near the midpoint of a president’s 4-year term of office.
