Palestine Between Nation and Resistance

The Palestinians and their Arab allies came to the Security Council to demand full membership for the Palestinian nation in the United Nations. They did this after they proved to the UN that the so-called peace process under the patronage and monopoly of America has not led to success.

It has been over two decades since the signing of the accord at the Oslo Convention, not counting the dozens of conferences and negotiations between the Palestinians and the Zionist entity since then. No agreement came out of it that succeeded in translating to peace at the Madrid Peace Conference in 1991, with the “land in exchange for peace” concept, since the Zionist enemy did and still does want the exchange with the Palestinian authority to be superficial. This was expected, since the beginning of the peace process in Madrid because the Zionist entity was never serious or honest about this. They did not truly move in the direction of peace following Yitzhak Shameer’s actions. He was the prime minister at the time when the right-wing Zionist extremists were in power, and instead of doing what he had vowed to do, he negotiated without result and ridiculous effort, which did not accomplish anything.

This sidelining of the negotiations is helped by the position that the Americans took in support of the Zionist entity. The United States monopolized the responsibility for the entire peace process. It was not honest or just, and ruled oppressively, though long years of negotiations. The Zionist entity violates every peace agreement and broke the principles of peace, although they were not forced to, making use of the supposed political neutrality which exists between them and the Palestinians although no one is forcing them to abide by any of the conditions. The U.S. doesn’t lift a finger to stop them, and the Palestinian Authority is blamed for everything, even things they weren’t responsible for. This emboldens the Zionist entity to simply hold up the peace process and chew up every agreement, as Netanyahu, in his arrogance, does with every deal.

This situation, continuing in the shadows is important to the coming of the Arab Spring, and the Arab Spring gave the president of Palestine the leverage to push forward with resistance to this situation and to break the rules of the game that were forced on them, and reject their promises. Washington’s threats urged the Palestinians not to take steps to apply for membership in the United Nations, thus insulting the Arab people to their face, but the Arab people have gained their voice, and they are not excluded as they once were. However, the probability is that the Palestinian Arabs will not achieve a quorum of nine votes in the UN Security Council, which will allow Washington to use its right of veto. There is no doubt that this adventure will have a high cost for the already deteriorating reputation of the U.S., because the U.S. is expected to be recalcitrant. The response the Palestinians make to the failure of this effort involving the international community must be internal, moving forward to complete the reconciliation of all fractions of the nation and pushed the Arabs support them, and also to protect them from the intrusion of Washington, the Zionist entity and the waffling of the Europeans.
