In Lebanon, U.S. Seeks an Arab Version of Israel

In his Friday sermon, Shiite Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah warned of civil unrest which serves American goals after the failure of the U.S.-Israeli ground war.

Fadlallah said in his Friday sermon today: “It is America’s war on Lebanon as part of a larger war, or at least as being an important step toward reviving the project of the Greater or Enlarged Middle East, which is in ever greater trouble in Iraq. It also serves as a form of compensation for its losses, when America gets other [Arab states in the region] to act on its behalf. The U.S. administration wants Lebanon to be the first of those. And perhaps from among its objectives is to recover the prestige of American deterrence, which has eroded due to the blows being struck against its forces in Iraq … or perhaps to stop the deterioration of its Middle East project, which is seen by neoconservatives as the central strategy to assuring America’s centrality in the world.”

He added:

“Therefore for the Lebanon war, the U.S.-Israeli alliance decided on the systematic destruction of all its infrastructure, and the displacement of its people, mainly from the South. These people have been turned into refugees in their own land by the military force that America, both before and still, has given the Zionist enemy. These weapons allow Israel to go after civilians with barbaric brutality, including the demolition of homes right over their occupants at Qana 2, which killed dozens of children in addition to their mothers and fathers.

[Editor’s Note: “Qana One” was the first Israeli attack on that Lebanese town in 1996 RealVideo].

America continues to supply the enemy with the most advanced bombs to kill Lebanese civilians without any fear of accountability, and so that it can kill the largest number. This proves to the world the emptiness of the American president’s slogans about democracy, human rights and human freedom, a fraud which the oppressed people in the world already know of, especially in Arab and Muslim countries.” He found that, “The present U.S. administration is a cancerous threat to all of humanity at every level.”

He also said: “America wanted Israel to be the greatest force in the region, to be its striking hand, to be able to strike all the Arab regimes including the regimes working with America. America even prevailed on some of them to make peace with the enemy, imposing on them a political, psychological and military defeat. It also prevailed on other Arab countries to make economic agreements with Israel and open up commercial offices as a step toward the normalization of relations. This will provide Israel every opportunity to export its products to the Arab World and undermine the Arab economic boycott against Israel. This is the fear of the enemy that pervades the minds of Arab and non-Arab leaders: that the road to relations with America has become an obligation to have relations with Israel.”

He also added:” Both in Palestine and Lebanon, the American administration has moved to confront the forces of liberation and those who reject occupation and violence, whether by embargo or political and domestic violence. Every party demanding freedom for its people; every party who refuses occupation of his land; and every party which rejected arrogant American hegemony over his political and economic assets, Washington has accused of terrorism. These methods are employed by the CIA for the purposes of controlling the region and the lives of its people.

Nor has the destruction of Palestine’s infrastructure or the suffering of its people ended, nor the suffering from the Arab embargo, nor the suffering from the Israeli siege using targeted assassinations using American weapons. Nor is any peace plan allowed to take shape, despite all the lies of the Quartet [U.S., Russia, E.U. and U.K.] about a viable Palestinian state alongside the Zionist entity.

There we see how the American plan which is supposed to protect Lebanon and help him to acquire strength has in fact destroyed him.”
