Misinformation and Provocation

The dimension that the Ukrainian crisis has taken, marked by U.S.-Russian firepower, brings no shortage of worry in a world given to excess. This escalation toward the worst is actually due to the fact that imperialist dreamers in the West are likely thinking that it’s time to impose Western dictates on other nations. In the Ukrainian crisis, the U.S. and the European Union are actively seeking a clash with Russia, or are goading it into committing an offense. Also, lies and misinformation are being exploited to aggravate an already complex situation. This is a sick game played by the Western powers, who are playing with fire by interfering in a region where any excess can lead to irreparable harm.

Why all this Western anger directed at Russia? No doubt it is because Russia exists as a great power alongside the U.S., which considers anything Russian or anything that comes from Moscow suspect. Thus, the West has adopted a scorched earth policy, accusing Russia of all evil deeds, even those incited and committed by the U.S. and the European Union. It has thus criticized Russia’s “interference” in Ukraine. If you look at the facts, it’s clear that if there’s any interference, it’s at least as much the West’s fault. Indeed, how many Russian ministers, fighters, or even advisers, were sent by Moscow to eastern Ukraine? None, until proven otherwise. What do we see instead? The U.S. has “delegated” its vice president (Joe Biden), its chief diplomat (John Kerry), the head of the CIA (John Brennan), and other FBI, CIA and Pentagon advisers, in addition to mercenaries from the “Academi” company (formerly Blackwater, the infamous company that committed mass murders in Iraq in 2007, thus forcing it to change its name). This is common knowledge among all the media — including Western — that speak of and cover the extent of Western intervention in Ukraine, where ministers from France, Great Britain, Germany and Canada in particular have stood by the famous “Euromaiden” stronghold with Ukrainian ultra-nationalists and fascists who took power by force in a coup against President Viktor Yanukovych. This is verifiable, but the Western press played a major role in poisoning international opinion, with the intent of putting the deteriorating situation in eastern Ukraine on Russia’s shoulders.

Last April, the media accused the Russians of having “kidnapped” OSCE observers (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe). This, at least, was a violation of international conventions and the laws of war. But the OSCE reassured the media that none of its people were missing. There were eight Ukrainian military inspectors who were arrested in Sloviansk by eastern insurgents. The Western press — with few exceptions — did not cover the OSCE’s amending explanation. In fact, the press interviewed the same people who, a decade ago, made Iraq the target of their world power and sought to dispose of terrible weapons of mass destruction (WMD). This turned out to be quite wrong.

However, eager to increase their hegemony over the world and driven by revenge-seeking Eastern European countries — such as Poland and the Baltic states — Americans and Europeans seem to have lost all sense of proportion by not taking any precaution or care to prevent belligerence. It is clear that the West wants to do “something” against Russia and retreat before the lies and the fabrications that it is pressing become a point of leverage. Washington thus accuses Russia of being complicit in the crash of the Malaysian aircraft shot down by a missile. The U.S., which surrounds the planet with its spy satellites, claims to have evidence; if it does, it should make that proof publicly available, unless that proof — as some American intelligence officers have said — shows that the Ukrainian army instead shot down the Malaysian plane.

The U.S. has gotten the world used to its lies, the most publicized ones being those concerning Iraq (Colin Powell, former secretary of state, admitted belatedly that the evidence against Iraq was false). It was also a lie that ushered the U.S. into the Vietnam War (see the Gulf of Tonkin incident). This list of American hoaxes (like Pearl Harbor) that have gotten the U.S. into wars that the American people might not have endorsed otherwise is actually quite long. It’s a practice that ignores the planet’s security, especially now that the there’s a possibility of nuclear war. Do Obama and Hollande realize that they are playing a dangerous game that could result in humanity’s greatest misfortune?
