“The best is yet to come,” declared Barack Obama in the first speech he gave after learning that he had been reelected to occupy the White House for another four years. In 2008, many people across the world were excited about the changes he promised; in Latin America people do not tire of repeating that the United States is the greatest democracy in the world, despite Guantanamo Bay and the secret prisons, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the invasion of Libya and interferences in Syria. Where is the respect for human rights and liberties? Obama is re-elected, and….?
With Republicans and Democrats, the objectives of imperial domination persist, both launching their war machines on weak and defenseless countries. The coup d’états don’t end; neither do the threats against Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela or Bolivia. The difference is that the Republicans are more vicious, whereas the Democrats will invade and destroy, “but it is possible that they will feel a little bit bad about it,” as some Muslims say.
In this “exemplary democracy” they have spent $6 billion on the electoral campaign, which shows that it is a democracy for the donating investors more than for the millions of poor Americans and migrants. This democracy, said Obama, is “protected by the best armed forces,” those that bombard Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia and other countries.
The congratulations and requests rain down on the re-elected emperor, but the Cuban embargo and the torturing of war “prisoners” will continue, as will NATO’s precision bombings, the threats against Iran, the unconditional support of the warmongering Zionists of Israel and the policy to neo-colonize Latin America and the Caribbean. “Morituri te salutant.”*
*Editor’s note: Latin expression meaning, “We who are about to die salute you.”

The madness lies in asserting something ... contrary to all evidence and intelligence. The method is doing it again and again, relentlessly, at full volume ... This is how Trump became president twice.

The economic liberalism that the world took for granted has given way to the White House’s attempt to gain sectarian control over institutions, as well as government intervention into private companies,
